The road to The Lawless Frontier is getting shorter every day. We’ve seen a lot of news about this expansion, from class buffs to armor and weapon tuning, and so far, Guardians are extremely excited. However, today we got to see something even better during the developer livestream, and that’s how well Bungie has adapted the Star Wars universe to the in-depth Destiny 2 lore coming to Renegades. And you know what? While many thought this would be a Star Wars expansion first and Destiny 2 second, it seems it is the other way around.
Destiny 2: Renegades Brings Balance to Bungie and Star Wars’ Lore
In case you missed it, we’ve attached the developer livestream there, so you can see every single bit of information ahead of the expansion’s release. While we could focus on the gameplay content, the Praxic Blade, and many more things that already show Renegades is on the right path, we’d like to focus more on how this DLC is doing an excellent job at combining two universes full of compelling lore.
When the first Destiny 2: Renegades trailer launched, many assumed it would be a Star Wars-first experience. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Bungie has done a terrific job at paying homage to several elements of Star Wars, but without losing the iconic things of this legendary shooter. One quick look at the trailer shows this, such as how, during the Praxic Blade duel, both characters start casting Guardian-like abilities.
Another thing that shows how Bungie is using Star Wars as its inspiration, but not its main focus, is how The Cabal and The Nine seem to be involved in the new campaign. It is quite surprising to see how all these elements make sense in the new locales that, despite looking like Yavin 4 or Hoth, still have that Destiny feel to them.
Ultimately, it is reassuring to see the studio’s approach to this expansion. Destiny 2 is one of the few shooters out there that offers a high-quality narrative enveloped in rich lore. Even if it is adding several elements from Star Wars, it is great to see that Renegades will put our Guardians and other iconic characters front and center. Yet, there’s nothing bad with some Jedi-like moves with the Praxic Blade, which we can’t wait to obtain once the expansion launches.
