More often than not, Destiny 2 servers go down for maintenance for various reasons. It could be from a glitch that’s causing some server issues, for a big update, or even just a small patch. Either way, as part of the Bungie community, it’s something we’ve learned to live with, even if we don’t enjoy it. Though, knowing when the servers are down is a great thing. Sometimes there are just too many players trying to log in at once and you should keep trying, and other times, you just have to wait it out for the maintenance to be complete.
What Are Destiny 2 Servers Doing? Are They Down?
On April 9th, 2024, Destiny 2 servers went down for the big update to implement the Into the Light free update. Though this server shutdown is for every platform, the maintenance should take a few hours. As of right now, the servers should be back up and running by 12PM PDT. A great way to stay informed is to follow @BungieHelp on Twitter/X.
Bungie tweeted that they were bringing down the servers early to prepare for the big update, which should go smoothly, but we all know Bungie and how they are about broken updates, so be sure to check back for more information if anything goes wrong.
Hopefully, this downtime won’t last too long, but we all know Bungie likes to keep servers down for just a bit longer than we’re always hoping for. While you wait for the servers to come back up, now would be a great time to prepare for all the new changes we hope to see with Into the Light. Once servers are back up, Destiny 2 will feel like a whole new game. We’ll have loads of new content to explore and discover.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.
