Just imagine: you and two other friends are ready to embark on some adventures within the Destiny 2 world, but one of you has forgotten to pick up Bounties. Where once, you would have needed to make a trip back to the Tower, dealt with some wild loading times, then made your way around the Annex and the Courtyard to speak with various vendors to pick up all the Bounties you need, now things will be different.
In The Final Shape, Bungie is rolling out a brand-new pursuit system for Destiny 2 called Pathfinder that will change the ways that Bounties, Patrols, and Vendors work. Pathfinder aims to consolidate, give more agency, make decisions matter more, and reduce barriers, making Destiny 2 feel entirely different than anything we’re used to now.
What Is Pathfinder
Pathfinder is probably one of the biggest changes coming in The Final Shape, as it will be consolidating Bounties, Patrols, and Weekly Vendor Challenges into one much more efficient system that you can access without having to travel at all.
Pathfinder presents 20 different objectives that are divided up until five tiers, each pushing you one step closer to the Pathfinder Reward, a piece of valuable loot. Every week the Pathfinder card will reset at the time of the weekly reset, leaving every Guardian at the same point in their journey to complete Pathfinder Objectives. Though, you will have the option to reset your card early, but it will cost Glimmer.
Throughout The Final Shape and beyond, there will be various cards available that are built using “a mixture of authorial control and procedural generation”, meaning after you’ve begun resetting, your cards wont look the same as everyone else’s.
How To Access Pathfinder
When The Final Shape launches, there will be two Pathfinder cards available to Guardians. One will replace the Bounties and Weekly Challenges for ritual activities, and the other will be unlocked during The Final Shape’s campaign.
You will be able to access the Rituals Pathfinder from your Director tab, and will give you objectives for each of the following activities:
- Vanguard Strikes
- Nightfalls
- Onslaught
- Gambit
- Crucible
