Drunk drivers are truly the worst. Despite countless accidents and horror stories proving just how dangerous it is to get behind the wheel while intoxicated, far too many people still do it. Most of the time, when someone spots a drunk driver, they keep their distance and call for help. But one man in Detroit decided he wasn’t going to stand by and watch. It all began when a family was driving through Michigan in two separate cars. TikTok user Fine China was following her sister’s car when out of nowhere, a red car slammed into them from the side. The driver, clearly drunk, immediately sped away. The family pulled over to check on the damage, but to their shock, the red car came back down the same road.
According to Fine China, the driver was swerving all over the place, looping around recklessly, and nearly hitting other cars and pedestrians. Her brother-in-law finally decided he had seen enough. When the drunk driver stopped and got out of his car just to taunt them, the brother-in-law chased him down, forced his way into the vehicle, and tried to stop him.
In the video later shared on Reddit, chaos erupts almost immediately on the Detroit street. The two men struggle inside the moving car until it veers out of control and slams into a tree on the sidewalk. The impact apparently damaged the gas tank, and Fine China recalled that gasoline began spilling everywhere. The drunk driver, oblivious to the danger, kept revving the engine.
Fearing the car could catch fire, Fine China shouted that someone had to turn it off. When her brother-in-law was shoved out of the vehicle, she rushed in herself to try and stop it, only to be punched by the drunk driver. Thankfully, firefighters and police soon arrived, securing the scene and arresting the intoxicated man before things could get any worse.
Seeing how chaotic the situation was in the video, some internet users criticized Fine China, her brother-in-law, and her sister for getting involved. Fine China defended herself, saying she was worried her family would be in even bigger danger if nobody stopped the drunk man. As she explained, the man was constantly swerving and doing donuts on the road, and since her car was damaged, she couldn’t exactly leave. Others were more sympathetic, with some even applauding their courage. One user wrote, “This is why I stay inside.”
