Deus Ex: Human Evolution was an incredibly popular game with an immersive story, but unfortunately had terrible boss fights. As fans later found out, those boss battles weren’t designed at Eidos Montreal at all, they were outsourced to a studio called Grip Entertainment. Because of that, many fans are now worried that an otherwise great Deus Ex will once again be tarnished by outsourcing. In order to help fans feel at ease about the upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Eidos Montreal is reportedly allowing multiple options for defeating bosses.

Hopefully no more lackluster boss fights

Speaking in the latest issue of OXM, via Gameradar, gameplay director Patrick Fortier and narrative director Mary DeMarle discuss the importance of giving you the same freedom of choice you have in boss encounters as you do in the main game. According to gameplay director Patrick Fortier:

“It’s all about supporting all the different play aspects.” “That was the main thing that was missing from the boss fights. Thematically, I think they were interesting, but certain players found a challenge there that wasn’t really catered to them.” Mankind Divided’s bosses are much more balanced in this regard. “There are ways to stealth them, there are ways to beat them in combat and there are conversations you can have that maybe give you a different means of dealing with the situation altogether.”

“For Human Revolution, because of the way we designed it, [bosses] always died in the cutscenes,” added narrative director Mary DeMarle. “You had no choice. But we rectified that in the Missing Link DLC, and we’ve rectified it in this game.”

All three options in the latest game, fighting, chatting and stealth, provide gameplay variety during boss fights, and which option the player chooses to defeat the boss will affect the story. For many fans, this is the news they were hoping for but not sure they would get, especially this soon. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One in the first half of 2016. Stay tuned for details!

I believe that games are an important form of entertainment, and that they can uplift and inspire millions of people around the world. I love JRPGs, and dabble in many other genres, especially MOBAs.
