The latest season of Diablo 4 (D4) rewards dedicated players with a new mode. It’s dubbed “hellish” for a good reason too. This near-endgame content is brutal, a stark reminder of intense roguelike experiences. But surviving and decimating wave after wave of enemies is worth it with the rewards that await. If you want to dive into the Diablo 4 Infernal Hordes, you must first unlock it, which will take us on a D4 farming journey to get Infernal Compass items.
How To Unlock Diablo 4 Infernal Hordes
Before you can worry about farming Infernal Compass items in D4, you’ll need to unlock the seasonal game mode. It isn’t for total newcomers as it’s gated behind numerous activities. You’re unable to access it until the Nightmare World Tier. Below are the main steps you’ll take to reach the Infernal Hordes:
- Either finish or skip the campaign with your chosen character
- On World Tier 2: Veteran, finish the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon (Level 50)
- Begin and follow the seasonal quest until meeting Locran
- In the Nightmare World Tier, complete the priority questline “Eyes of the Enemy”
- Complete the quest that follows: “To the Edge of the Abyss”
Once that’s done, you should unlock Infernal Hordes in Diablo 4 and receive your first Infernal Compass. Now the hard part awaits.
How To Farm Infernal Compass Items in D4
The Infernal Hordes Compass is a consumable item in Diablo 4. So, once you use it to access the activity, it’s gone. Which means it’s time for us to farm. There are a few ways to do so, gratefully enough. But not all Infernal Compasses are created equally.
Diablo 4’s new mode brings our eight Infernal Compass tiers. With the first tier, you can access the activity on Nightmare. However, the higher tiers are more difficult, requiring you to play on Torment. If need be, you can always upgrade a D4 Infernal Compass with the Abyssal Scrolls.
None of it matters if we can’t even get more Infernal Compass items to face the hordes in Diablo 4, right? So, prepare for some frequent farming.
- Whisper Caches: There’s a high chance that claiming a Whisper Cache will earn you an Infernal Compass drop.
- Running Helltides: When you’re doing Helltides, open the Aberrant Cinders for a chance to loot an Infernal Compass. Another solid approach is killing the Doomsayers hanging out around the glyph circles.
- Endgame Activities: If you want to score a high-tier Infernal Compass for tougher hordes and greater rewards, you can tackle Nightmare Dungeons or The Pit.
There’s always a chance you can craft an Infernal Compass item in D4. It’s a high cost to pay since you’ll need hundreds of Sigil Powder and several Forgotten Souls. For Sigil Powder, you must dismantle your Infernal Compasses and Nightmare Sigils with a blacksmith. Meanwhile, the Forgotten Soul is obtainable in Helltides.
It can be a lot of work crafting Infernal Compasses, which is why I don’t strongly recommend taking that approach if you need some right now. Instead, focus on farming them. There’s enough to do to stay busy. Even upgrading the ones you have with Abyssal Scrolls is a solid approach. These Scrolls can drop all around Sanctuary too, so keep your eyes peeled.
