There is strong yet offensive irony in immigration officers unlawfully apprehending the protected native people of the US, Native Americans. After all, you can’t get much more “American” than them. However, with racist white supremacists in control of violent, indoctrinated federal agents, the impossible has become possible: ICE is kidnapping Native Americans in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Specifically, four members of the Oglala Sioux tribe were taken from the Little Earth community; one was released, and the three are now “missing,” according to ICE officials.
How detainees are unjustly arrested, incarcerated, and then forgotten about is beyond anyone’s comprehension. Fortunately, Lakota People’s Law Project Director Chase Iron Eyes has arrived in Minneapolis with several other members to search for the missing Oglala Sioux members. For context, Chase is a distinguished civil rights fighter for Native Americans and leads multiple organizations and programs supporting Indigenous people in the US. That said, he and his team are rightfully upset that ICE agents would see any of their members as “illegals” who could be deported.
Speaking to a reporter with Status Coup News and MeidasTouch, Chase is baffled that the government that’s supposed to protect Native Americans could let this happen:
“We are America. How could you possibly target Native Americans with immigration and customs enforcement officers and then imprison us? That is impossible. It’s legally impossible to do that.”
“Imagine that, arresting someone who is more American than you,” remarks a YouTube commenter. “MAGA was never about making America great. It’s about White Supremacy,” adds another. “When the people “enforcing” the law are as dumb as soup, anything is possible,” says a Redditor. All that said, many believe these Native American arrests by ICE to be unintentional; after all, Andrew Jackson, the father of the Indian Removal Act, is President Trump’s alleged “favorite President.
If it hasn’t already been said a million times: ICE agents aren’t searching for people who are not properly documented. They are clearly looking for people who don’t have the “correct” skin tone, as is evident from this Oglala Sioux kidnapping. And it’s not just people who aren’t white who are being terrorized and even killed, as we’ve witnessed with Renee Good. With “true Americans” being arrested by immigration officers, there’s no question what Trump and ICE are truly after: ethnic cleansing.
