The rapper’s arrest on sexual assault and trafficking charges has rocked most of Hollywood, with almost every celebrity being labeled as complicit. Gomez has been able to steer clear of the controversy until now, and fans think there is a reason why.
On Thursday night, the Disney alum took the stage at the Rare Impact Fund Benefit held in Los Angeles. Gomez spoke about her charity’s partnership with Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services (DHMS) to help prevent suicide among youths. While introducing the executive director of Didi Hirsch, she accidentally said “Diddy” because of the similarities in the names. The Rare Beauty founder immediately corrected herself, but not before the audience caught it. “I really am sorry,” she said to the crowd, who couldn’t stop laughing at the blunder.
Gomez’s error was soon forgotten, and the event went on without any further mention of the Bad Boys Records founder. Unfortunately, while the mention of Diddy’s name seemed like a harmless mistake, fans online don’t think so.

With footage of Selena Gomez’s error going viral, it didn’t take long for fans online to share their opinions.
“Yeah, she was spooked because she has been to the Freak Off Parties,” theorized one user.
“She sure knows how to grab attention, lol,” another fan slammed.
“Nice marketing strategy by Selena’s team to milk a little bit of Diddy controversy,” a third comment read.
“It’s not a slip. A slip is a profanity. Talking about a person is a topic and intentional. She did what she wanted to do,” a fourth fan argued.
Others, however, came to Gomez’s defense, saying it was nothing but a mistake. “This is fucking misleading. She was talking about DiDi Hirsh, a service that helps with mental health. She didn’t mention that man,” corrected a concerned follower.
