Diddy‘s luck continues to run out. The rapper’s hopes for a release from prison were bashed after a judge denied him bail for the third time. Judge Arun Subramanian made the decision on Wednesday following a hearing on Friday where prosecutors argued against the music mogul.
“The Court finds that the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community,” the judge wrote per CNN. During the hearing, federal prosecutors argued that Diddy posed a serious threat to witnesses if released on bail. The record executive allegedly continued to obstruct justice even while at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
Diddy reportedly evaded law enforcement monitoring behind bars. They caught him trying to contact witnesses via a three-way calling system by paying other inmates to use their Phone Access Code numbers. Although his team argued that Diddy stopped using the ContactMeASAP service on Nov. 16, evidence showed he used it as of Nov. 24. The judge also referenced the infamous 2016 video of Diddy beating Cassie and the subsequent texts she sent about her injuries. He noted that there was “compelling evidence of Combs’s propensity for violence.”
The judge’s reason for denying Diddy’s bail request tallies with that of the previous ones. They both concluded that the Coming Home artist would interfere with the ongoing federal investigation. However, the Bad Boys Record founder’s hopes aren’t completely dashed. Subramanian informed Diddy that if remaining behind bars hinders his trial preparations, then he can renew his bail appeal.
Diddy Requested Escape To Private Island, Fans Mock
Since being arrested in September, Diddy has been seeking bail, putting his $50 million Miami mansion as collateral. For his last request, he sought to wait out his trial at his home in Star Island — the same residence the feds raided in March. However, the judge was quick to shut it down, saying it was “not going to work.” His attorneys later changed their mind, submitting a three-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. They claimed Diddy would be surrounded by security 24/7 to monitor visits and phone calls, putting him under more restrictions. However, the judge wasn’t convinced.
Following the ruling, fans online celebrated the news of Diddy remaining locked up until May 5. “I don’t know why he’s even trying anymore they’re not letting him go,” one fan wrote. “He’s going to do a Long Extended stay. He might as well start making himself at home!” Another fan urged, “give it up already,” while this third commenter penned, “He’s never gonna see the light of day again.”
Recall that Diddy was indicted on sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and prostitution-related charges. He has since pleaded not guilty.
