Another day, another new information about Elden Ring Nightreign. This unexpected multiplayer FromSoftware game has been a hot topic among players. In previous interviews, Director Junya Ishizaki said this new game would feature a condensed RPG experience where three players had to work together to survive for three days. In a recent interview with IGN Japan, Ishizaki shared more information about this highly anticipated game.
Like other FromSoftware titles, Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature any difficulty settings. Director Ishizaki believed that those unfamiliar or new to the game could overcome the challenges if they kept playing. “There are items called “Relics” that permanently strengthen characters,” Ishizaki said, “so we recommend that you play the game repeatedly and collect relics while you are still new to the game.”
There are eight playable characters, each with their own unique playstyle. There is even one character whose kit revolves around using Ashes in battles. Those interested in their lore can learn more about them by reading the records at the Hidden Round Table. The team has only revealed four so far, and Ishizaki asked players to look forward to future updates to learn more.
The main currency in Elden Ring Nightreign is Marks. You can spend this resource at the Hidden Round Table to obtain Relics. Besides allowing you to upgrade your characters permanently, you can also unlock gestures and skins by spending Marks.
When asked why the team made it a three-player co-op, Ishizaki said they wanted to create a different kind of fun than previous games. “We think that players will be able to experience a different feeling of accomplishment and joy from Dark Souls and Elden Ring,” Ishizaki said. He then explained that they designed the game for three players instead of four due to balance. He wanted fans to feel challenged while also enjoying the cooperative experience.
Players can expect to fight several bosses during one Elden Ring Nightreign session, with the final boss appearing during the final night. Ishizaki said they were currently considering making bosses that had been defeated previously reappear even stronger. Players should also note that regular enemies won’t respawn when you rest at a Site of Grace.
Another thing that players should know is that they won’t be able to leave messages in Elden Ring Nightreign. Although you will still be able to see the ghosts of other players, Ishizaki felt that the message feature wouldn’t be necessary since each session would only last around 40 minutes. “There is no time to write your own message and no time to read messages written by others,” Ishizaki said.
