No girl should be body shamed when she goes to a clothes store. Unfortunately, this being wrong doesn’t stop it from happening. A disgusting clothing store owner in Nashville, Tennessee did this exact thing to a minor who was shopping at her store. The store, called The Showroom Nashville, has been facing backlash since then. It all started when a girl posted a video she filmed while she was at the store. In it, the owner could be clearly heard telling the minor. “I have to protect my dresses. This is a very cute dress and I knew it wasn’t gonna work. I was actually doing you a favor. I don’t care. I was trying to help you find dresses that fit you.” Of course, hearing only these words didn’t make the owner look good.
When the 17-year-old involved shared her story, it raised serious concerns about the owner’s behavior. The Tennessee teen shared a video detailing what happened that made the owner talk to her like that. She started by saying that she is a pageant girl and that she was at the showroom because she had several events this year. The girl tried several dresses and all of them were too big. That was when her mom asked for a certain dress but in a different size. That dress happened to be couture, specifically a Portia and Scarlett couture dress. Instead of getting her the dress, the owner came into the room and looked the girl up and down. She then proceeded to tell her that she was too big for the dress.
Of course, this body shaming deeply affected the Tennessee girl. She said that she struggled with body dysmorphia as well. At this point, the first video that went viral was filmed. The girl then said that she left a Google review about her terrible experience. Instead of apologizing, the owner decided to scroll through the girl’s Instagram and use one of her pictures where she was eating corn to harass her. The girl’s review was, “I would never recommend this store to buy a dress or outfit. The owner was extremely unprofessional, rude, and belittling. We have much better stores in our town that are accommodating and offer far better selections. Do not recommend‼!”
The owner’s response, however, was completely unacceptable. “You and your mother were the worst prom customers ever! You both were extremely rude and demanding to my employees who were all trying to help you. I had to step in and stand up for them. I told you we are not a prom store. Why would you even come here when you work at the White Room? Get your popcorn ready, or should I say your giant corn on the cob?!! I am going to have some fun responding to your parents‼‼” she wrote. How does she still have her business? She ended up deleting the girl’s review.
The owner didn’t stop at that either. She later posted on her shop’s page a video of two women wearing the same dress that the girl wanted to try on. This is something a bully would do. The owner even made the picture of the dress the profile picture for the shop’s Facebook page. Following the backlash, she changed it. What makes it clear that she is a horrible person is the fact that she kept going out of her way to bully the girl. Plus, she didn’t even apologize.
People Reacting to the Tennessee Store Owner’s Behavior
Many people found the Tennessee store owner’s actions unacceptable. It even turned out that she previously responded rudely to negative reviews too. This is why one person wrote, “This is how the owner is responding to reviews‼‼ What a horrible person.” Another person said, “Yeah I was reading those as well I’m gonna keep advocating for young women like you this is absolutely disgusting this isn’t an isolated incident this is a PATTERN OF BAD BEHAVIOR AND CUSTOMER SERVICE she shouldn’t be running any type of business.” Someone else commented, “Her attitude is very mean girl who peaked in high school.”
Some people also believed that the Tennessee woman was jealous of the girl and that was why she body shamed her. “It’s giving ‘I’m mad this pretty young girl is younger and prettier than me’,” one person wrote. Another person then replied, “That’s exactly what it is. I dislike mean girls. Jealousy is so ugly on people.” Another person claimed the owner was encouraging people to post fake positive reviews to boost her reputation. “Let me also say this: when the original video came about I searched ‘showroom Nashville’ on TikTok and NO revent videos came up, but now that this is blowing up people just so happened to make positive videos yesterday & today. Not a chance,” they wrote. She should apologize.
