The new trailer for Disney’s animated series Star Wars Resistance is here! Written by Dave Filoni, the mind behind Star Wars the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Resistance will be a prequel to The Force Awakens.
The show is set during the third trilogy of films and follows a Resistance pilot named Kazuda Xiono.
Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot for the Resistance, is tasked with a top secret mission to investigate the First Order, a growing threat in the galaxy.”
From the trailer, it looks like Resistance will follow Resistance fighters as they work to escape the First Order and expand their rebellion through the galaxy. While it may follow a similar plot to Rebels, my guess is while the Resistance grows, the storyline will mainly feature Xiono as he infiltrates First Order bases.
Xiono will have some help from familiar Resistance fighter, Poe Dameron, voiced by Oscar Isaac, and his partner BB-8. Captain Phasma, voiced by Gwendoline Christie, returns as well. If it’s anything like its predecessors, Resistance will feature more familiar faces and voices.
The Clone Wars and Rebels included old friends and enemies from the trilogies, but what made them stand out was the inclusion of new characters.
Athena Yvette Portillo, the executive producer for The Clone Wars and Rebels, is also producing Resistance. Along with Justin Ridge and Brandon Auman. Everyone tied to this series has a resume full of shows with a large fan base and beloved by many. Dylan McGill is responsible for the music in the show. He is also working on the score for Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Star Wars Resistance premieres Sunday, October 7th on Disney Channel. It will also be available on Disney’s streaming service, along with Jon Favreau’s live-action Star Wars TV series. While episode IX is far far away, a new season of The Clone Wars premieres in 2019 as well.
