When talking about Dynasty Warriors 9, the latest installment from Koei Tecmo in the long list of hack and slash games, people tend to use words like “bodies”, “slaughterin'”, or “WAR!”. Like, “hey man, I’m gonna go out slaughterin’ some bodies in the good name of WAR!” That’s an example, a pretty crappy one at that. Yet, it’s a good indicator for how people–including myself–have played these games since they came into existence back in 1997.

With Koei Tecmo’s latest video, though, fans of the franchise are given the opportunity to see how Dynasty Warriors 9 will change what people are used to seeing. The video shows off a DLC that’ll be available exclusively to Japanese customers who’ve purchased the physical copy of the game. That means that, although some people will be slicin’ and dicin’ their way through hordes of enemies as normal, Japanese players will be able to use a variety of different outfits, as seen in the video below.

There will be seven different outfits. I’m unsure how they look, to be honest. The women’s’ outfits don’t really match with the type of game that Dynasty Warriors 9 will be, as most of them look like they’re a part of an Old Navy oriental sun dress sale. That doesn’t seem to fit with the three magical words of Dynasty Warriors, last time I checked. But hey, whatever floats Koei’s boat. The only guy to get a wardrobe change is Zhao Zun, donning a shining silver blue into battle with his long spear.

As mentioned before, the DLC will only be available to those residing in Japan. But to make the whole predicament a little bit more frustrating to those trying to collect all of the new outfits, players can only get one costume depending on where they buy the game. So one store may have Zhao Zun’s and another may have Sun Shangxiang’s. I guess in order to collect them all, one would have to purchase the game seven different times at seven different locations? I think that’s the plan for when the game initially releases, but I’m sure Koei Tecmo will release the seven outfits worldwide at some point after the title has been out for a while.

Dynasty Warriors 9 will have an immersive open world and will be released in Japan for the PS4 on February 8 (tomorrow). It’ll hit shelves in the states and in Europe on February 13 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
