Final Fantasy 16 is one of the best games released this year. Breathtaking boss fights are one of the many reasons fans adore it, but its story certainly is the central highlight of the adventure. Compared to the previous games, it has a much darker and more complex story. There are a lot of great main and side characters. You might wonder what became the fate of certain characters in the game, such as Clive. So, if you want to know whether Clive dies in Final Fantasy 16 — we have the answer.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Final Fantasy 16 and its ending.

The ending of Final Fantasy 16 will provide hints of what happens to the game’s main character but doesn’t show it directly. But based on what we’re given, it is safe to say that Clive does die in Final Fantasy 16, making it one of the darkest stories told in the FF franchise.

Before completing the last section of the game, Clive mentions that Ultima’s power is way too potent for its vessel. This means he cannot contain this power, causing his death. Clive says this before embarking on erasing Eikons and magic from Valisthea. After Clive erases Ultima’s legacy, he finds himself stranded on the beach. This is the second hint highlighting why he is dead.

In this scene, you can see that Crystals’ Curse has taken over Clive’s body. This is a common curse among those who bear unique magics. At first, you can see that it’s only his fingertip, but then all over his left hand. As mentioned in the game lore, there is no cure for Crystals’ Curse. By putting everything we have side by side, the chances of Clive’s survival are slim to none. So it is safe to say that he does die at the end of Final Fantasy 16.

Final Fantasy 16 is available for PlayStation 5.
