Get ready to be creeped out in Cuckoo, a horror movie set in the German Alps. Written and directed by Tilman Singer (Luz), Cuckoo stars Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) as Gretchen, a teen who moves to a resort with her father and stepmother after her mother dies. When her stepsister falls ill and weird things start happening she suspects that the owner of the resort, Herr König (Dan Stevens), is up to something sinister. As it is a horror movie, you might be wondering if the ending teases a sequel. So, let’s see if Cuckoo has a post-credits scene.
Is There a Post-Credits Scene in Cuckoo?
If you were waiting for one final scare, you can leave the theater, because Cuckoo does not have a post-credits scene. There are no comedic stingers, no bloopers, and no end-credits scenes showing the fates of any characters. So, unless you want to watch the names of the people who worked on the film, you can leave the theater once the credits sequence begins. It’s not uncommon for a horror movie not to have anything after the credits, especially one that feels like a complete standalone film, like Cuckoo.
You know what happens to most of the characters before the credits roll, and while there is definitely a path for a sequel, it isn’t one that’s obvious or dying to be made. If anything, Cuckoo could have used a blooper reel because there must be some really funny takes of Dan Stevens and his evil German accent. But, not every film needs a post-credits scene, and it would be nice to give the ushers a break once and a while and leave the theater during the credits.
Cuckoo‘s probably going to have a middling performance at the box office, sandwiched between Deadpool & Wolverine, It Ends With Us, and Borderlands. It had a $7 million budget, and the projections for its opening weekend are at $3 million, which isn’t too bad. So, it will probably end up making enough money to exceed its budget, but not enough where Neon is clamoring for a sequel. Of course, Neon hasn’t been having a bad year, as last month’s Longlegs has made $88 million as of writing.
You can watch Cuckoo in theaters now.
