The King of the Monsters is coming back to theaters with the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Directed by Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong), it stars Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), and Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey). Following the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, The New Empire focuses on a mysterious power rising from the Hollow Earth, one that will force Godzilla and Kong to unite once again. You might be wondering if the newest entry in Legendary’s MonsterVerse sets up a sequel, so let’s see if Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has a post-credits scene.
Is There a Post-Credits Scene in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire?
If you’re tired of seeing kaiju wrestle, you can walk out of the theater when the credits begin to roll because Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire does not have a post-credits scene. Once the movie ends there are no extra scenes or teases that set up a sequel. Of course, feel free to stay in your seat and watch the names of the hardworking people who were involved in the production. But, if you need to duck off to the bathroom right away, don’t worry because you won’t be missing a thing.
The New Empire doesn’t end in a way that begs for a post-credits scene. Characters are left on the board for future appearances and while it doesn’t directly tease a sequel, another entry wouldn’t be a surprise. With that being said, the movie is funnier than you might expect, so there could have been a funny stinger at the end of the credits. There could have also been a teaser setting up any of the kaiju that haven’t made an appearance in the MonsterVerse franchise yet.
The New Empire had plenty of kaiju in the film already, so it’s not like they needed to throw another one in at the very end. Weirdly, even though it’s a far more serious title, Godzilla Minus One had more of a sequel tease at the end of that film. Of course, we won’t know if the MonsterVerse will continue until we see how it fairs at the box office. You can see the kaiju yourself when Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire roars into theaters on March 29, 2024.
