Joker: Folie à Deux is the sequel to the 2019 DC hit, Joker. Directed by Todd Phillips (Joker), the film follows Arthur Fleck after his institutionalization at the end of the first film. Joaquin Phoenix (Napoleon) has returned as Fleck/Joker, and joining him in this outing is Lady Gaga (A Star is Born) as Lee Quinzel/Harley Quinn. As it is a DC film, you might be wondering if it teases a sequel, or if there are any references to Gotham’s Caped Crusader. So, let’s take a look at whether or not Joker: Folie à Deux has a post-credits scene.
Is There a Post-Credits Scene in Joker: Folie à Deux?
If you want to leave the theater right when the film ends, feel free to do so as Joker: Folie à Deux does not have a post-credits scene. There are no end-credits scenes, stingers, or blooper reels, so once the credits begin you can leave the theater without feeling like you’re missing something. Of course, you can always stay and watch the names of the people who worked on the movie. Then you can also listen to Lady Gaga’s version of “That’s Life” and Joaquin Phoenix’s rendition of “True Love Will Find You in The End,” which play during the credits.
If you’re wondering about a sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux will probably be the last one, especially with no post-credits scene to set one up. Like the first film, the story ends on a definitive note. There doesn’t seem to be much room to follow these characters past this entry. At the 81st Venice International Film Festival, Phillips commented on a possible sequel, saying, “I don’t want to speak for Joaquin, but for me, the story of Arthur/Joker has been told.” So, it looks like – for Phillips at least – Joker: Folie à Deux will be the final Joker film.
As for a reference to Batman, well there are none. That makes sense because Bruce Wayne was a child in the first film. There are a couple of easter eggs related to the Batman mythology scattered throughout the film, but nothing overt. The most overt reference other than the main two characters being The Joker and Harley Quinn, is that Harvey Dent – who becomes Two-Face in most Batman stories – is the one prosecuting Fleck.
You can catch Joker: Folie à Deux in theaters from October 4, 2024.
