Does Migration Have a Post-Credits Scene?

Can you duck out of theaters once the credits roll?

The latest (and probably last) animated film to come out in 2023 is here, with the release of Illuminationโ€™s Migration. Directed by Benjamin Renner (Ernest & Celestine) and written by Mike White (The White Lotus), the film follows a family of mallards who decide to brave the dangerous unknown and migrate south for the winter. Kumail Nanjiani voices the father of the family, Mack Mallard, while Elizabeth Banks voices the mother, Pam. Even though the film is roughly 90 minutes long, you might be wondering if Migration has a post-credits scene. So, letโ€™s take a look at the end of the movie.ย

Are There Any Post-Credits Scenes in Migration?

If your children are nearing the end of their attention spans, feel free to take them out of the theater once the credits begin to roll as there are no post-credits scenes in Migration. However, there is a montage of pictures at the beginning of the credits that follows the Mallard family’s next adventure as teased at the very end of the film. This probably means that if a sequel to Migration was made, that wouldn’t be the story, even though it seems like thatโ€™s what the scene was setting up.

But, just because there isnโ€™t a post-credits scene, that doesnโ€™t mean that there isnโ€™t anything fun accompanying the movie. Like many animated movies, Migration actually features a short film as part of the screening, only it plays at the beginning of the film, not at the end. So, make sure you donโ€™t miss the opening of the movie, as you might miss the short. The film is called Mooned, and it takes place in the same universe as another Illumination property, Despicable Me. It follows the villain of the first film Vector, with Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) returning to voice the character.

Mooned takes place right after the events of Despicable Me, with Vector stranded on the Moon. So, there is something at the start of Migration, but it has no post-credits scenes. Thankfully, Migration wraps up its story nicely, and there didnโ€™t need to be any story beats at the end of the movie. Although, there could have been a comedic stinger with one of the many side characters that the Mallard family meets during their journey. You can catch Migration when it flies into theaters on December 22, 2023.
