Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in the latest installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Billed as the first outing of a two-parter, you might be sitting in the theater wondering whether or not there’s anything after the credits tying this and its future sequel together. Even though none of the previous entries have had post or end-credits stingers, the fact that Part Two is supposed to be released in just under a year might have lent credence to the idea that Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One would have a post-credits scene.

If you found yourself wondering if you could rush out to the bathroom right as the credits begin to roll, don’t worry – you can. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One does not have a post-credits scene, but in the fashion of all the previous entries in the franchise, it does have an explosive credits sequence. Even though Dead Reckoning doesn’t have a post-credits stinger, it isn’t necessarily in need of one, as the film sets up Part Two quite nicely. It ends with Hunt and Simon Pegg’s Benji Dunn recovering the item they require to proceed with their mission. It might have been better to leave us with some kind of clue as to what the villainous Gabriel (Esai Morales) is up to in a post-credits scene, but it seems like we’ll have to wait to find out.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One is currently receiving rave reviews. As of writing, the next entry is set to release on June 28, 2024. Dead Reckoning Part Two will be helmed by Christopher McQuarrie who has directed and written the last few installments. Cruise will return as Ethan Hunt, along with several other members of the cast. But that date might slip, as a recent interview with McQuarrie in Empire might have hinted at delays due to the Writers Guild of America strike. After Dead Reckoning Part One was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it seems like the real impossible mission is getting these movies out without delay.

You can catch Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, sans post-credits scene, in theaters now.
