Does Monkey Man Have a Post-Credits Scene?

Don’t go bananas quite yet.

Academy Award-nominated actor Dev Patel (The Green Knight) has branched out and directed his first feature film, Monkey Man. It follows a man – credited as Kid – who embarks on a quest of vengeance to take down the man who killed his mother. The film also stars Sharlto Copley (Chappie), Pitobash (Million Dollar Arm), and Sobhita Dhulipala (Major). While it is Patel’s directorial debut, you might be wondering if the movie sets up a sequel by teasing anything at the end of the credits. So, let’s take a look at whether or not Monkey Man has a post-credits scene.

If the two-hour runtime proves too much for your bladder, you can go to the bathroom without worry, as Monkey Man does not have a post-credits scene. There are no extra scenes or supplemental stingers that allude to a sequel. Of course, feel free to stay and watch the names of everybody who worked on the movie. Or, you can give your usher a break and leave the theater as soon as the film ends. You won’t be missing anything substantial either way.

Sometimes described as a John Wick clone, Monkey Man didn’t need a post-credits scene. After all, none of the John Wick movies had any. While it does have an open ending, it’s not an overly ambiguous one. Sure, we could’ve gotten a glimpse of what happens to any one of the underserved characters, but it’s fine that we didn’t. It is an independent action movie, and neither independent movies nor action flicks tend to include post-credits scenes. However, a Jackie Chan-esque reel of Patel performing some of the stunts would’ve been welcome, even if the star did break his hand during filming.

As of writing, there hasn’t been any talk of a sequel, and based on the film’s story, there probably won’t be one. It’s a very contained narrative. With that being said, Patel should try his hand behind the camera once again. The majority of film critics are looking upon the movie favorably, so it looks like his first outing in the director’s chair is a good one, at least critically. Maybe if Monkey Man does well financially, there will be some talk of a sequel. You can catch the movie yourself when Monkey Man comes to theaters on April 5, 2024.
