One of the first movie releases of 2024 is the horror movie Night Swim. It follows a family that moves into a new house as they begin to experience something weird going on with their pool. Written and directed by Bryce McGuire, it is based on a short film he made with Rod Blackhurst. The movie was produced by James Wan (Malignant) and Jason Blum (M3GAN), and it stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin). You might be wondering if Night Swim has a post-credits scene, so let’s take a look at the film’s ending.
Is There a Post-Credits Scene in Night Swim?
You can leave the theater as soon as the credits begin as Night Swim does not have a post-credits scene. Once the credits begin there is nothing to keep you in your seat while the usher impatiently waits to clean up your aisle. However, if you do have nothing better to do, you can read all the names of the people who worked on the movie you saw. But, there is nothing extra – substantial or otherwise – at the end of the credits, unless you count a slowly disappearing and thematic title card.
Even though Night Swim did end concretely – without going into spoilers – there is potential for a sequel or spin-off. So, it would be easy to think that an extra scene at the end of the credits could set up a future installment. Staying on the title card is a subtle way to hint that we might not have seen the end of the haunted swimming pool, rather than including an on-the-nose post-credits scene. It isn’t surprising that a first-time feature director didn’t throw in a setup for a sequel.
We will need to wait a while before we find out whether Night Swim is a standalone horror movie. Blumhouse Productions doesn’t shy away from greenlighting sequels or spin-offs, with sequels for both M3GAN and The Black Phone in the works. That’s without taking into account how horror movies usually have comparatively high box-office returns. While the premise of this movie is enough to sustain a franchise, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if this were a standalone film. You can catch Night Swim in theaters from January 5, 2024.
