Braving the wilds of Once Human is quite an ordeal, and while the game has a great keyboard layout, some might be more comfortable using a controller. With all the menus and functions this game has, certain inputs can be overwhelming for some, especially those not used to playing with a keyboard and mouse. Add to that PvP elements with players looking to loot your hard-earned materials and weapons, and well, having controller support in Once Human could make things much easier for everyone.

Unfortunately, Once Human still does not have controller support. This issue has continued since Closed Beta 3, although data miners checked that there is an option for controllers; you’ll have to stick with playing with your keyboard and mouse a little longer. According to the developers, the official statement says: “Due to ongoing technical adjustments, Once Human is not yet compatible with controllers.” However, the FAQ mentions that they are still working to add this feature as soon as possible. So far, the developers hope to have the controller support ready by August.

On the other hand, a few players have found unofficial ways to make a controller work, but since it isn’t verified by the developers, we advise against it. During the Closed Beta 3, according to the game’s official subreddit, you can add controller support by using the “Controller Companion” app. We haven’t tried it, but if you want to give it a shot, remember that it might not work as intended.

Overall, the game’s layout is pretty good when playing on a keyboard. All menus are easy to access, and you can configure your keybinds if you’re not a fan of the original ones. Hopefully, the developers will add controller support to Once Human as the testing period progresses. There are many Meta-Humans jumping into this chaotic world, and having their preferred way of playing implemented could make a big difference. In the meantime, familiarize yourself with the buttons and prepare to survive these treacherous lands.
