James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) has returned to horror with Speak No Evil. A remake of the 2022 Danish film of the same name, the film was directed by James Watkins (McMafia). It follows a family who go to stay with another family they met on vacation, only to discover that their hospitality might be more sinister than it originally seems. It also stars Mackenzie Davis (Black Mirror), Scoot McNairy (Argo), and Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale). As it is a horror movie, you might be wondering if it sets up a sequel. So let’s see whether or not Speak No Evil has a post-credits scene.
Is There a Post-Credits Scene in Speak No Evil?
If you need to run off to go to the bathroom, do so worry-free, because Speak No Evil does not have a post-credits scene. There are no stingers, end-credits scenes, or blooper reels. Once the credits begin you can leave the theater having experienced all that Speak No Evil has to offer, unless you want to watch the names of all the hardworking people who worked on the film. But, otherwise, feel free to leave when the credits begin and give your usher a break.
Speak No Evil is one of the rare movies that doesn’t need a post-credits scene. The film ends on a note of finality, and there’s no need for a sequel tease. Even though it is a remake, this film doesn’t seem like the type to spawn a sequel or spin-off as it feels self-contained. However, with James McAvoy hamming it up as much as he does in the film, a blooper reel might have been fun. It does make sense not to include one because it might have messed with the weight of the film’s ending.
If you do want more from Speak No Evil, you can always track down the original film. It is available to rent or buy on Apple TV. It’s a little shorter than the remake if you happened to find that the remake was a little long in the tooth. If you want to see more of scary James McAvoy, go watch 2016’s Split to see some of his best work.
You can see Speak No Evil in theaters from September 13, 2024.
