The Day Before is available on Steam and you can navigate the apocalypse with your keyboard and mouse. But the key bindings might not be comfortable and a controller has better ergonomic support. Some games do have controller support at the start such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, but it’s not guaranteed. Does The Day Before have controller support in any capacity or can you only use your keyboard and mouse?
The Day Before Controller Support Availability
The Day Before currently doesn’t have full or partial controller support at the start. Checking the Steam page and looking above the language section shows that there is no support in any capacity. You can only use your keyboard and mouse to experience the game. Even if Steam recognizes the controller you plug in, it won’t recognize the button inputs.
The game is in Early Access and controller support may come at a later time. But there is no way to set up any controller yourself, with the only option for gamepads allowing you to change sensitivity. Reconfiguring the keyboard bindings is your best alternative for a comfortable gaming experience.
If you struggle to adapt without a controller, you can play online with other players as you get comfortable. There isn’t any cross-play available during Early Access but other players will also be adapting without controllers. Teaming up with them as you learn will save some frustration and let you learn about the game’s difficulty.
It may take some practice to adapt to using a keyboard and mouse, but it shouldn’t be difficult to learn. After learning how to play and testing the weapons for yourself, you might not need a controller when the option becomes available. But if you are looking for more comfortable gameplay, it’s better to wait until you can use controllers.
