After nearly a decade, The Hunger Games franchise has returned to theaters with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The movie is a prequel to the original films, based on a prequel novel of the same name by the creator of the franchise, Suzanne Collins. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the director of the last three films in the franchise, it takes place 64 years before the first film. You might be wondering if The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes has any post-credits scenes, with any connections to the previous movies. So, let’s talk about the end credits of the movie.
Does The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes Have a Post-Credits Scene?
You can let the ushers clean up the aisles, as The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes doesn’t have any post-credits scenes. However, you will want to make sure you stick around right until the credits start to roll. There is a small connection to the original films that we’ll explain below. But, to explain the stinger we’ll have to talk about the film’s story. The prequel tells the story of the 10th Hunger Games when Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) was assigned as a mentor to the District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler).
So, a brief spoiler warning as we are about to tell you what you might miss if you leave the theater too early. Just before the logo pops up and the credits roll – but after the movie cuts to black – you will hear a line of dialogue through some voiceover from Snow, but as played by Donald Sutherland in the original movies. It acts as a nice cap to the film, by tying the Snow we were watching for the last 158 minutes, to the one fans know from the previous films.
It isn’t anything special, but if you’re a diehard fan of The Hunger Games you’ll want to stay in your seat until then. This isn’t the only reference The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes makes to the original films either, but we wouldn’t want to spoil those for you if you haven’t seen the movie. Just be thankful that you can leave the theater to run to the bathroom as soon as the credits begin. You can catch The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes in theaters from November 17, 2023.
