Donald Trump‘s idea of an election campaign is raising brows as he seemingly puts his NFT cards benefit over all else amid his hush money trial. The former President of the United States has become the subject of various controversial actions amid his second bid for the presidency. He currently faces 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels. With his trial running into weeks, the presidential aspirant has relentlessly complained about wasting valuable time on it, which could have otherwise been spent campaigning.
Donald Trump Hosts Buyers of His NFT Cards Despite Campaign Lapses
Yet, when the former president and business mogul snagged his rare day off from the courtroom on Wednesday, a campaign certainly wasn’t on the cards. Donald Trump spent his day off from the hush money trial hosting top investors in his NFT cards at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida. The dinner was attended by Trump supporters who spent thousands of dollars purchasing the Trump “Mugshot Edition” NFTs.
Each attendee reportedly purchased a minimum of 47 Trump NFTs at $99 each to snag an invitation. Additionally, the former POTUS hosted a special VIP cocktail reception for investors with holdings worth about $10,000 (100 NFTs) and above, just before the in-house dinner. These VIP supporters received physical cards bearing actual pieces of the suit and tie the billionaire wore during his August 2023 arrest in Fulton County.
Recall that before the hush money trial, Donald Trump was arrested in August 2023 for allegedly conspiring to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. While he is yet to face trial on those charges, the businessman is making the most out of it.
The Mugshot NFTs is a nod to the mugshot from said arrest, with comical images of Donald Trump serving as their official symbols. Some of these symbols include the actual mugshot from his arrest, an illustration of Trump in a cowboy hat or an image of the politician with lightning bolts projecting from his hands themed “America’s Superhero.”
Trump NFTs Serve Political and Financial Ambitions
Several clips from the NFT dinner have since made the rounds on social media. These clips saw the Republican presidential aspirant promoting cryptocurrencies and NFTS. In the viral videos, Donald Trump is heard making claims implying his NFT cards made NFT hot again, or that “the democrats are very much against [crypto],” per Independent.
The politician also pointed out how crypto businesses are leaving the US due to the hostility they face under the Democratic Party governance. Donald Trump also urged the rich supporters present at the NFT dinner to vote for him if they needed a less hostile economy for cryptocurrencies. He also welcomed the idea of donating to the Donald Trump campaign using crypto.
Some of Trump’s statements to the dinnergoers contradicted his earlier view on digital currencies. In January, while addressing a crowd in New Hampshire, the 77-year-old opposed the creation of a central bank digital currency, calling it a threat to freedom. Singing a different tune barely months later seems almost clownish.
