There is definitely a lot to be said about how the United States is handling the assassination of Charlie Kirk at a Utah university. Although a suspect was recently taken into custody following the event, a trial date has not yet been set to determine the next steps. In response to this particular situation, Donald Trump spoke with Fox News and stated that trials in the United States should be more similar to those in China. According to him, China carries out trials very quickly and can sometimes have them as soon as the following day after an event has occurred.
First things first, it’s incredibly clear that despite the clear opposition Donald Trump has against China, he really has no idea how they do things. A quick Google search revealed that trials in China are just as time-consuming as those in the United States, with various aspects that must be taken into consideration before proceeding. Regardless of how you might feel about a person, they still deserve the right to prepare to defend themselves in front of a judge with adequate time.
More specifically, Trump explains that instead of waiting for years for a trial date, China can have their trial the very next day. Donald Trump continues to speak on Fox News, alongside other hosts, about how trials are handled in the United States, and that too much time is spent discovering evidence of things such as childhood abuse or mental anguish. It’s very odd to hear directly from the President’s mouth that people should be tried without being given the chance to determine their innocence. I almost wonder what attorneys and lawyers have to say about this particular statement.
Commentators on the above video are very vocal about how this statement should apply to Trump directly, with one of the top comments saying, “Trump should have had a quick trial and put in prison.” That comment is most interesting because I can’t imagine that President Trump would feel the same way about having his words used against him. Should that be the case, then I don’t believe he would have been released from prison in time to run for another term. Now that this statement has been made and is out in the moment, I’m under the impression that executive orders might be signed to ensure that happens.
