Back in the 2024 Summer Game Fest, Sony disappointed some of its fans by introducing a rather weak roster of upcoming PlayStation games– at least when compared to Xbox’s showing. Their State of Play back then was even dubbed as the “worst ever” (it included Concord, by the way). So some PlayStation owners expected something, especially when rumors swirled up about a PlayStation Showcase at the end of the year. However, an insider account reveals a disappointing development– or lack thereof.
The information came from Jeff Grubb, who replied to another user with a short shutdown of the PlayStation Showcase rumors:
Soon after that reply, Jeff Grubb tweeted this:
So if it wasn’t clear enough already, you probably shouldn’t expect anything from Sony before the year ends or next month. The rumors of a PlayStation Showcase came about after Sony deleted a PlayStation ad. It suggested that was something coming on December 3, 2024.
There Might Be Something for The Game Awards
Other suggestions point to an announcement at the 2024 Game Awards. Funny enough, one of the PlayStation’s best releases this year, Astro Bot is actually a frontrunner in The Game Awards this year.
Silent Hill 2 Remake, which was also included in Sony’s aforementioned disappointing State of Play, is also well-received.
Still, one of the rumors swirling about is that Resident Evil 9 will be unveiled sometime in December 2024, so there’s there might be hope, albeit a faint one. Additionally, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater also doesn’t have a specific release date yet. So the Game Awards could be an opportune moment for the remake.
Even without those, however, Sony already has a strong PS5-exclusives lineup for 2025, with Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei slated for next year. There are also upcoming exclusives with no confirmed release years yet like Marvel’s Wolverine. In any case, don’t hold your breath.
