While you can accept various side quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one of the most important missions you need to complete is the Regrets of the Dread Wolf. This quest consists of finding six wolf statues. One will be automatically obtained during the main quest, but you have to find the rest yourself. This mission will allow you to understand Solas’ past and motivation. You will also need to face a powerful boss at the end. If you need help finding all the wolf statues, you can check out this Regrets of the Dread Wolf walkthrough.
All Statue Locations in Regrets of the Dread Wolf Quest Walkthrough
You can start the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest by obtaining the first wolf statue. As you complete various main missions, you will eventually meet with the Inquisitor. They will then give you a wolf statue, which may be the first one you will obtain.
The other statues are more challenging to get since you have to actively explore the Crossroads. If you have issues finding them all, this Regrets of the Dread Wolf walkthrough will explain in detail. Here is the list of missions that you must complete:
- Disrupt and Conquer side quest
- Wolf’s Call side quest
- Labs Below side quest
- Davrin’s companion mission
- Gate of Lost Ages side quest
Wolf Statue 1
You can obtain the first wolf statue by completing a short side quest called Disrupt and Conquer. This mission will require you to go through Solas’ memories by passing through a gate made of plants and vines at the Heights of Athim. You should encounter this location when completing A Warden’s Best Friend mission.
Wolf Statue 2
The second wolf statue in the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest can be found after completing the Wolf’s Call mission. This is another memory that you have to witness. You can access it by going to Elvhenan’s Haven at the Crossroads.
Wolf Statue 3
The third statue is located at the end of the Labs Below side quest. This mission is another of Solas’ memories. You can start it by passing through the vein gate at the Converged City. It’s quite short, and you only need to deal with some Darkspawns.
Wolf Statue 4
The fourth statue in the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest can also be found in another area in Elvhenan’s Haven. You can only access this area by opening the Gate of Lost Ages. To obtain the champion essence, you must complete Davrin’s first companion mission at the Arlathan Forest.
Wolf Statue 5
To get the fifth wolf statue, complete the Gate of Lost Ages side quest. You must beat another champion, and this monster is located at Lost Company Mine in Dock Town. Just fully explore this area, and you will find the statue at the end.
Mythal’s Retribution Boss Fight in Regrets of the Dread Wolf
After watching all of Solas’ memories and talking with Morrigan, you must confront a shard of Mythal’s soul at the end of the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest. Unfortunately, she’s not very willing to help you, so you must beat her in a fight. She’ll turn into a dragon called Mythal’s Retribution with Level 45.
This dragon is weak against Necrotic damage but resistant against Lightning. I suggest bringing Emmrich and Lucanis with you to this battle. The boss will constantly move around the arena, and you will have to dodge various projectiles.
Besides spamming the dodge button, you can also sprint away from some of the attacks from the boss. I found the dashing closer when the dragon is shooting her laser breath attack is quite effective at avoiding that move. Don’t get too comfortable there, though, because the dragon will use her tail to swat you away.
At one point, the dragon will even leap into a tall cliff you can’t reach. At this moment, just focus on dodging the oncoming attacks. You may also need to deal with some mobs that the dragon will spawn into the arena. They are weak against Lightning, but they’re only at Level 18. Ignoring them is also an option since the boss arena is huge.
The Regrets of the Dread Wolf boss will mainly attack you with Lightning attacks, so it would be wise to use gear that reduces damage from this element. While melee attacks are always faster, you may consider pulling out your ranged weapons since the dragon loves to fly or jump away. If you can fill up the stagger gauge, the boss will fall, and you can attack its weak spot on the chest.
Completing the Regrets of the Dread quest will give you a special magical artifact that you can use in the main story. You can also open a massive treasure chest containing A Pale Reflection unique amulet.
