Dragonsplague in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a rather destructive illness that compels your Pawn to massacre a whole town or city. If this has already happened to you, you’re going to run out of Wakestones reviving NPCs that fell to your main Pawn. However, there’s a better solution called the Eternal Wakestone. It’s a one-time-use Waketone that will revive multiple dead NPCs in a certain vicinity. Here’s how to get an Eternal Wakestone in DD2.
The Sphinx has the Answer
Upon first meeting the Sphinx, you’ll notice that there’s a huge golden chest behind her. That chest (the one behind her) contains the Eternal Wakestone. To obtain it, you’ll have to defeat the Sphinx either by finishing her quest, “A Game of Wits,” or by attacking and killing her (more on that later).
Wherever the Sphinx is, that’s where you’ll find the Eternal Wakestone. You can first encounter the Sphinx in the area marked above in the image. Make sure to head to the first location (marked 1) if you haven’t met the Sphinx yet. Once you have completed the Sphinx’s first set of riddles, she’ll move to the second location in Frontier Shrine (marked 2, just follow the small road west of Checkpoint Rest Town).
After you defeat the Sphinx, you can obtain the Key of Sagacity, which will open the golden chest behind her. This will give you access to the Eternal Wakstone.
Should You Just Kill the Sphinx Immediately for the Eternal Wakestone?
This is the hastier solution and won’t require you to undergo those laborious and tough “riddles.” Just attack her right away and make sure to kill her before she flies off and escapes. However, we still don’t recommend it on your first playthrough.
That’s because the Sphinx’s riddles can give you several good items, like two Portcrystals, an Unmaking Arrow, 100,000 Gold, and even a late-game weapon for the Trickster Vocation. Still, it’s important to note that you don’t have to perform and finish all the Sphinx’s riddles. You can be selective depending on the Riddle’s rewards; after that, you can try to kill her.
These riddles give out the best rewards:
- Riddle of Eyes – Required for the Riddle of Madness.
- Riddle of Madness – Rewards a Portcrystal.
- Riddle of Conviction – Lets you duplicate an item you give to her (ideally a Portcrystal).
- Riddle of Reunion – 100,000 Gold, but the Sphinx will need to move to her second location in Frontier Shrine.
- Riddle of Recollection – Unmaking Arrow, great for the final boss fight.
- Riddle of Contest – Ring of Ambition.
- Riddle of Differentiation – Whimsical Daydream (Trickster weapon).
We recommend finishing these riddles first and then killing the Sphinx. Here’s our guide on how to finish these riddles. As for killing the Sphinx easily, here’s a step-by-step:
- Rest at an Inn (this will serve as a manual save), preferably in Checkpoint Rest Town.
- Change your Vocation to an Archer.
- Obtain an Unmaking Arrow either from the Sphinx or from The Dragonforged on the beaches near Bakbattahl. He’s part of the main quest, hard to miss.
- IMPORTANT: Don’t start the fight with the Unmaking Arrow, initiate combat with the Spinx regularly first until she starts to flee.
- Once the Sphinx starts to flee, use the Unmaking Arrow to kill her instantly.
- Loot her corpse, get the Key of Sagacity, and open the golden chest to get the Eternal Wakestone.
