The Mystic Spearhand is one of the newest additions to the Dragon’s Dogma lore and roster of Vocations or classes. Dragon’s Dogma 2 practically “replaced” the first game’s overpowered Mystic Knight with the Mystic Spearhand. So, how does it measure up? It’s up there with the Magick Archer as one of the most busted Vocations if utilized right. With this Mystic Spearhand build, the class can become a great all-rounder and the tankiest class in the game.
Mystic Spearhand Build Skills
Mystic Spearhand starts off slow, especially if you’re coming from a Vocation like Thief. You’ll want to max it out right away to get the best skills. Even after that, you’ll still need to do the mastery quest for Sigurd. It’s in the westernmost part of Battahl to get the Mystic Spearhand’s most powerful melee skill, Wild Furie. You can get by without Wild Furie, and the Mystic Spearhand build will still be overpowered and unkillable. However, your melee damage will be considerably lower without this skill.
Whether you have everything unlocked or are looking for a specific configuration as a goal, these are the Mystic Spearhand skills we recommend.
Skill | Effect |
Wild Furie | Unleashes a relentless flurry of slashes and magickal attacks. Additional button presses continue the onslaught by consuming Stamina. |
Magike Speregonne | Fires the stored magick within the duospear in a high-speed blast. Consumes Stamina while preparing the duospear to fill it with magick, inflicting damage proportionate to the amount of Stamina expended. |
Mirour Shelde | Creates a magical barrier around the user and nearby allies. Each barrier lasts only for a brief period but completely negates all types of attacks during that time. |
Ravinour’s Hond | Drains the target’s vitality and converts it into Stamina for the user. This ability cannot be used against targets without a physical form. |
It’s up to you which button layout you’re comfortable with.
Skill Explanations
Wild Furie is a must and is excellent for blitzing and bursting multiple enemies and makes you less reliant on the Winding Cut core skill. If you don’t have it yet, feel free to replace it with the lesser and weaker Moment’s Charge as an alternative.
Magike Speregonne is optional, but it’s the Mystic Spearhand’s most powerful ranged skill that you can manually target. If you aim right, you can even take a full HP bar off a Drake.
Mirour Shielde is what makes this build utterly overpowered. Thus, Mirour Shielde is mandatory, even if you don’t like using it. It trivializes the whole game by giving the party an 8-second (or so) period of invulnerability. You can still get staggered by giant enemies or fall asleep, but you’ll be immune to damage.
Ravinour’s Hond is also mandatory since the Mystic Spearhand is Stamina-hungry. You’ll need it for casting all three skills, but more importantly, Ravinour’s Hond’s Stamina steal can give you a permanent uptime for Mirour Shielde. And who doesn’t like near-permanent invulnerability in a hard RPG?
Mystic Spearhand Build Playstyle
The playstyle is simpler now that you’re not relying too much on Winding Cut or Forbeding Bolt core skills. You can still interweave those attacks, of course.
Here’s what you’ll want to do in most encounters:
- Stick close to your allies and activate Mirour Shielde.
- Get close enough to the target and unleash Wild Furie repeatedly. You can also use it as a gap closer.
- Pay attention to your Stamina bar, and don’t let it go empty. Halt your Wild Furie just before the Stamina bar becomes empty.
- Spam Ravinour’s Hond to get back Stamina fast.
- Repeat Step 1.
The sequence won’t always work this ideally, of course. You have to gauge the situation, as sometimes Wild Furie will bounce off if you attack those Rock Saurians or it might send you plunging to your death if you chase harpies with it.
For certain situations and other scenarios, remember these tips:
- If you’re aiming to hit enemy weak spots, use Forbeding Bolt to slow them down.
- If the enemy is out of melee range, use Magicke Speregonne (charge it up before firing).
- Running out of Stamina repeatedly? Consider interweaving Winding Cut/Twein Cut/Magike Cut core skills in between bursts of Wild Furie.
- You can also use Stamina potions and consumables in place of Ravinour’s Hond (as the skill is melee).
- Additionally, you’ll want a Mage with the Celestial Paean skill in the party for a temporary burst of unlimited Stamina.
- Whatever you do, keep the Mirour Shielde up all the time.
Augments for the Mystic Spearhand Build
For Augments, you’ll want those listed below. Note that most Augments are class-specific so you’ll have to level up those specific classes to get them:
Endurance (Archer) | Increases your maximum Stamina. |
Verve (Thief) | Augments your Strength. |
Sagacity (Sorcerer) | Augments your Magick. |
Athleticism (Mystic Spearhand) | Reduces Stamina consumed while dashing. |
Polarity (Mystic Spearhand) | Augments your Strength during the day and your Magick at night. |
Zeal (Warfarer) | Reduces the Stamina consumed when performing a weapon skill. |
As expected, the Mystic Spearhand deals a combination of both Strength and Magick damage, so a good balance between both is necessary.
With that in mind, gearing your Mystic Spearhand with enhancements is easier. You don’t need to go far for upgrades.
Gear for the Mystic Spearhand Build
Finally, the gear. Gearing up in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is easy. You can buy most endgame items from merchants. All you need is Gold. Additionally, weapons and armor are often Vocation-locked, so there’s really only one weapon or armor set to keep in mind here, which is the one for the Mystic Spearhand.
Just get the Duospear with the highest damage when at the base level (without enhancements). Buy what you can afford or enhance what you find. Speaking of enhancements, these play a bigger role in gearing. For our Mystic Spearhand build, go with the following enhancements for your weapons and armor:
- Weapon (Duospear) – 3x Vermundian, 1x Wyrmfire
- Armor – 3x Vermundian, 1x Dwarven
The weapon focuses on giving a good balance of Strength and Magick while the armor’s final upgrade is Dwarven for stagger and knockdown resistance. But the armor’s defense stats don’t really matter much as you’ll be invulnerable most of the time anyway.
