Children of the 90s, arise! It appears a Duke Nukem announcement is coming next week!
The official website has been pretty quiet since the release of the long-awaited and disappointing Duke Nukem Forever in 2011. However, that all changed today. Over at the official website, a “Happy 20th Anniversary” banner has appeared, commemorating the release of Duke Nukem 3D in 1996. Below that is a countdown clock which is set to expire on the evening of September 1st at 8:30 PM EST. No other clues exist on the main website, but the social media accounts have come back to life as well.
Duke Nukem‘s Facebook page warns users that Duke is on Twitter, and that his comments may offend people. If you roll to @dukenukemgame on Twitter, the man himself has a new page where he banters back and forth with fans and haters alike. Whether this stunt is pointing to some sort of remake/remaster of Duke Nukem 3D or an all new game in the series is yet to be seen. One thing Duke was sure to let his fans know, however, is what he has run out of:

With nostalgic rereleases and remasters of old classics remaining a popular sell, it’s not surprising that the king may be in for a comeback. DOOM saw a new entry in the series earlier this year that met with pretty solid reviews, so it is not surprising that one of the other granddaddies of the first person shooter genre should reappear. The real question is this: does the king even hold up anymore? Stay tuned for September 1st to see what the countdown is all about.
