Dune: Spice Wars is a real-time strategy game set in the Dune universe that was announced at The Game Awards 2021. Spice Wars will be available in early access in 2022.

This is not the first time a strategy game based on the universe of Dune is being made. Shiro Games, known for their survival game Northgard is developing the game. Dune: Spice Wars was announced at The Game Awards 2021. The game is in development in the real-time strategy genre with 4X elements.

Factions and Houses play a major role in the Dune universe. It is said the game will contain every house and players have the freedom to choose any of the houses they want. There will be multiple ways the player could win the game which means there will tons of replayability.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is the latest adaptation of the Dune universe starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Issac, and Rebecca Ferguson. It is not the first film adaptation and it won’t be the last one. It was confirmed that Dune Part Two was greenlit and will be released in 2023.

But it was 2001 when we last saw a standalone video game set in the universe of the Dune. Frank Herbert’s Dune was made by Widescreen Games and published by Cryo Interactive.  In 2009, fans made and published Dune Wars mod for Civilization IV and that was the last time we saw Dune universe in a video game.

The developers said the game is mainly based on books but there will be some similarities. Apart from Dune: Spice Wars, Nukklear is also working on a survival game based on the Dune. Nukklear’s game will be published by Funcom. It seems Dune Part One influenced many developers to make a video game with their imagination and point of view. Paul Atreides and Chani’s avatars were also added to Fortnite after the premier of Dune.
