Do you want to know how to use Floodgates in Dwarf Fortress? Dwarf Fortress is a sandbox construction and management simulation game where you are the ruler of a small group of dwarves. You must manage their resources, build structures, and defend your fortress from enemies. Floodgates are used to control the water level inside your fort. This guide will tell you how to use Floodgates in Dwarf Fortress.

What are Floodgates in Dwarf Fortress?

Floodgates are used to control the water level inside your fortress. They consist of a pair of bars or walls. One side is lowered when you want to raise the water level, and one side is presented when you need to reduce the water level. You can use Stones,  Wood, or Metal bars to make the Floodgates. You can activate the Flood Gate by pushing the lever, which will open or close it, depending on which way you try it.

Also, you can see closed Floodgates from the X symbol in the game, while open Flood gates are not directly visible. But still, if you want to see the open floodgate, you can see them through the Look Menu.

How to use  Floodgates in Dwarf Fortress?

You can use Flood gates to control Liquids, which are handy for building irrigation for farming or Drawing down unauthorized visitors. You can also build Flood gates directly under the Floor Gates. This will allow you to quickly drain the Liquid from the floor without losing any of it.

Also, floodgates are connected with pressure plates on a lower level which connects the Flood gate to your main water supply. This allows you to separate the water into different sections and will enable you to control the flow of Liquid within your fortress. To open or close a Flood gate, all you need to do is press the lever.

Once you have your Flood gates set up, you can use them to control your water levels inside the fortress. You can also use them to prevent flooding during rain or prevent enemies from entering the fort.
