Today, Techland’s Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektałahas officially confirmed that Dying Light is coming to the Nintendo Switch as the Platinum Edition. However, the team didn’t say anything about the release date. The announcement was made during a special episode of a developer video diary Dying 2 Know in the Gamescom 2021 stream. Previously back in July, there was a report that Techland is making a Switch port for the game. The report said that it will launch in October.
According to the official announcement, Dying Light Platinum Edition on Switch will still support co-op, while the July report said that it also supports additional Switch-exclusive features such as touchscreen and gyro aiming. The physical release of the game will contain:
- Dying Light Switch game cartridge.
- Official survival guide – containing the most important tips and tricks on how to survive in the restricted zone.
- Two-sided map.
- Unique stickers.
The first Dying Light debuted for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in January 2015. Although a first-person action game with post-apocalyptic background and filled with zombies isn’t a novel idea, it managed to become an instant hit. Thanks to the expansive open-world map as well as the fluid mobility gameplay using a parkour system. Despite the first game’s success, Techland seems to be having a problem developing the sequel. Dying Light 2 suffered several delays and the company was accused of mismanagement.
Pre-orders for Dying Light 2 are currently available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, with two physical editions, Standard and Deluxe; alongside three digital editions, Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. Nevertheless, for now, Techland hasn’t set a release window for Dying Light 2. Will you be getting Dying Light Platinum Edition for your Switch? Are you still excited about the sequel?
