Haduoken! The Street Fighter V beta has just been announced, as well as the addition of two new characters, at this years Sony conference at E3. The game is being made by Capcom for Playstation 4, and Microsoft Windows.
New additions to the game also include two characters to its roster: one a classic favorite, Cammy, and the other long lost revival from the Alpha sub-series, Birdie!
Unfortunately, Birdie seems to have let himself go. The once muscular man seems to have eaten too many potato chips. In the trailer, his chain wraps around his wrist and lassos foes, slamming them to the ground. His V-Skill called ‘Break Time’ has him eat food, granting him extra buffs. Afterwards, he leaves trash on the ground, which the opponents can trip over. His V-Skill also works when using different directional prompts, which allows him to eat and discard various foods. His V-Trigger is called ‘Enjoy Time’, and after maxing out his V-Gauge, Birdie will scarf down a spicy pepper, which grants him damage boost and guard break potential for his special moves.
As one of the original SFII characters, Cammy has been around for a long time. She appears to have the same outfit as the original games, donning a green leotard, blonde pigtails and military boots. Cammy, best know for her speed and agility, seems to move effortlessly in the trailer. Street Fighter V, will expand on her moves; her V-Skill, known as ‘Axel Spin Knuckle’, gives her the ability to do a forward spin move and follow up with a forearm blow. It not only allows her to pass through projectiles unharmed, but it can also have her spin to the opponent’s back and striking them from their blind-spot. Her V-Trigger, called ‘Delta Drive’, grants her a massive boost of speed and cuts down on the delays for her special moves, allowing her to use them more often.
While Cammy may not be a surprise as she is a fan favorite, Birdie definitely is. Capcom has, as of late, been bringing back characters that fans haven’t seen in a while, especially in Street Fighter 4. Capcom has one of the largest fighting rosters in the fighting game genre.
Stay tuned to hear more Street Fighter V news! The game’s beta will be made exclusively available to PS4 pre-order customers on July 23rd. Street Fighter V will launch for the PlayStation 4 and PC in March 2016.
