Microsoft’s first big game announcement was, as expected, Gears of War 4. A brief showcase of the game’s co-op campaign showed the traditional Gears of War cover-and-shoot gameplay, and included a surprise visit from a series favorite at the end. Somewhat overshadowing the new gameplay of the latest in the franchise, however, was the announcement of the new integration with Windows 10 that will accompany some Xbox One games, including Gears of War 4. Not only will Xbox start incorporating cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10, as demonstrated with the Gears of War 4 co-op campaign, but certain games will also allow for one purchase to open up the game on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

Games denoted with the “Xbox Play Anywhere” tag will allow the game to be purchased on one system, but playable on either Xbox One or Windows 10 PCs. This merging will further blur the line between platforms and allow more gamers to reach each other than ever.

Gears of War 4 is scheduled to release October 11, 2016 for Xbox One and Windows 10. A new Xbox One Elite wireless controller is coming with it. Check out the trailer for it below:
