E3 2021 Dates Are Set, If People Can Attend Is A Different Matter

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

While everyone worries if they’re going to see next year, the ESA has already reserved seats at E3 2021. Whether or not Mad Max attire will be mandatory is unknown for now.

E3 2021 is for June 15th through the 17th as the Entertainment Software Association(ESA) relayed to its partners. Sources say the event will be “reimagined” when E3 comes back next year.

The ESA has yet to announce if they are still going through with some type of digital E3 showcase. They said last month that the ESA is” exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020.”

The Coronavirus and the accompanying quarantines don’t have an end date yet. But, IGN announced yesterday they would host a “Summer of Gaming” event during early June. The publishers participating include Square Enix, Sega, Bandai Namco, Amazon, Google, Twitter, Devolver Digital, and THQ Nordic.

The More The Merrier

The gaming expo has been held every year since 1995, going through a variety of changes. It was always meant to be an industry-only event, however, the public was able to get in from lax rules. After 2006, those rules were enforced and E3 was entirely closed off from the public.

2009 saw the ESA open the expo up more after months of complaints until 2016. Then, things had completely open to the public. PlayStation pulled out of 2019’s E3 after attending every one since its launch.  They were originally missing this year’s E3 as well before it got canceled.

Sony might have been inspired by Nintendo after they stopped holding E3 conferences in favor of Nintendo Directs. Although, Nintendo’s directs are still E3 related and Sony doesn’t necessarily associate with E3 with its streams.

Gaming expos are notorious for people getting sick due to a large number of attendees and some people having plain nasty hygiene. 2019’s E3 saw 66,100 guests through its doors and honestly, it may be better not to know the number of people that left the bathroom without washing their hands.

Whether you wipe or not after leaving the restroom, we’ll keep you updated with any E3 2021 news and other announcements.

Do you care if there is an E3 event this year? What canceled 2020 events were you looking forward to? Leave a comment!
