Economy Is So Bad That Gas Station Burgers Cost More Than $10: ‘Not Including Tax and Tip’

It has come to this

We all know the country is going through a rough patch, which, well, doesn’t seem like it will end anytime soon. Among the many things plaguing Americans is the rising cost of certain items and amenities. We all remember how challenging things got when gas got so expensive, but now those costs seem to have jumped to other products. To illustrate how bad the economy is right now, one Redditor posted a picture of a gas station burger that now costs, believe it or not, more than $10.

In 2026 America, a single hamburger from the gas station is almost $11.

Reddit user JankyIngenue shared a picture of a gas station promoting a Southwest Burger. Normally, you would expect gas-station products to be a bit cheaper, especially food. Sadly, this particular burger costs $10.79.

At a glance, you might think the cost is because the gas station is offering an expensive brand or something. But some keen-eyed Redditors noticed this burger is from a convenience store brand, so the price shouldn’t be that high. Usually, gas station burgers shouldn’t even break that $5 ceiling. So, seeing one that reaches almost $11 is outrageous, as some users put it.

Still, many believe this burger debacle is a perfect example of the American landscape right now. In the past, people could afford some of these quick meals or go to a gas station and buy a few things before hitting the road again. Yet, as the OP puts it, it is almost impossible in 2026 America.

Americans Outraged After Seeing How Expensive Things Are

As many expected, this harmless burger picture triggered a lot of Americans who believe almost everything has gotten so expensive that some can’t even afford a burger like this. On top of that, some believe that the quality of these burgers, which should usually be on the cheaper side, isn’t worth the almost $11 price tag.

“And there is no way it looks like that.”

“Not including tax and tip.”

Others added salt to the wound, saying this is a countrywide trend where people can’t afford to go out anymore, or at least not as often as before.

“It’s getting so bad. I used to eat out all the time; now, with the combined low quality and high prices, we are eating in. Not worth it.“

A couple of months ago, people were still hopeful the economy would bounce back and maybe even let Americans spend as much as they used to. Yet, as many put it, that might not be the case anymore. Minimum wages are still extremely low in some states, and the cost of living keeps increasing for some.
