‘Can We Be Friends?’: 19-Year-Old Says 40-Year-Old Grubhub Driver Asked If She Was Eating Alone, Then Sent Disturbing Message

She suspects he’s got ulterior motives

With the number of women allegedly being harassed by their delivery drivers, it’s no wonder that so many urge others to change their usernames to something “masculine.” That said, Reddit user Milflover1902 didn’t allege harassment, but she did report a rather disturbing message from her Grubhub driver. In her post on r/mildlyinfuriating, she shared a screenshot of her driver asking her to be his friend after delivering her meal, an invite she was not expecting or wanted.

Milflover says it was 6 in the morning when her order came, as it was a meal she planned to take to work. After answering the door to pick up the food, she says the driver asked if she was “eating alone” and what she “was up to.” If that wasn’t a red flag enough, she claims he stared at her uncomfortably when she went back upstairs to her home.

The Customer Did Not Want to ‘Be Friends’ With the Driver

What sealed the deal in this awkward interaction, however, was the alleged message following the delivery: “This is your grubhub driver, keith, can we be friends?” Context is key here, as this isn’t a mutual friend asking to be friends at some get-together. Milflover says the sun was barely up, and an older deliveryman was seemingly asking her out. “No, a 40-year-old man should not be trying to get at a 19-year-old woman at her home while delivering food,” she argued.

This remark was an update in response to some Redditors allegedly saying that she was overreacting to someone asking to be her friend. Other users were not fooled, with the top comment reading, “So many creeps are deleting their comments lol.” “Even if it wasn’t a man double your age, it’s weird for any delivery person to do something like this,” chimed in another user.

Not to mention, Grubhub has rules against this sort of behavior from its drivers, on top of its posted “Policy Against Discrimination, Sexual and Other Forms of Harassment.” Again, what this driver did wasn’t illegal, but Milflover wasn’t wrong in feeling uncomfortable and suspicious either, when all she wanted was her lunch for work.

In the end, Milflover never mentioned whether she reported the driver or whether he was penalized for his uncalled-for personal message. Though it would seem the delivery service has lost a customer over Keith’s behavior, with OP concluding that she “hasn’t used grubhub since.”
