Eddie Murphy‘s son, Eric Murphy, and Martin Lawrence‘s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence, have been dating since 2021. Over the years, the two celebrities claim they have often joked about their kids getting married and joining their families.
The two proud dads have also jokingly beefed with each other for the past three years about which of them would go into their pockets to pay for the potential wedding. The two seemingly do not agree on this subject, and Murphy jokes it is causing them some friction.
During an interview with ET, the host asked Eddie Murphy how he feels about his son and Martin Lawrence’s daughter potentially getting married. There was no pause, and Eddie quickly spit out a well-thought-out response.
Martin Lawrence & Eddie Murphy Feud Over Wedding Costs
According to Cinemablend, the wedding beef between Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence originally started with Martin in 2022. However, Eddie has kept the alleged wedding feud alive and has some strong opinions.
“Well, customarily the father pays for daughter, am I correct? That’s the way it goes down. It shouldn’t be an issue, you know? Bad Boys is out of the park and Martin has lots and lots of money, so he should be able to pay for a splendid wedding.”
It is hard to tell whether Eddie Murphy is joking or serious since he uses humor to make his point. The next time the two celebrities were together, Eddie called Martin out during an interview on Etalk.
Martin Lawrence shrugged off Eddie Murphy’s attempt at a wedding etiquette explanation. Eddie told Martin, “Don’t try to change no s***, do no Hollywood switch.”
Eddie explained to Martin that since he had just paid for his daughter’s wedding, he felt he knew something about how it all was supposed to work. But Eddie remains adamant and, in the comic bit, tells Martin Lawrence that he is serious about this wedding stuff and that Martin will cover the costs.
Of course, fans believe it is all just a humorous fake feud that the two comedians are teasing their kids and fans about. At least, they hope so. If not, it would be horrible to put their kids through this torture for real.
However, they have to get engaged first. So far, Eric Murphy has yet to pop the question to Jasmin Lawrence. But when that day arrives, can you imagine what a party Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence will throw?
