Elden Ring – Smithing Stones Locations
For the fixed locations of all Smithing Stones (and Somber Smithing Stones), both on the ground and underground areas. If you go to that spot, you should find a mine with Smithing Stones inside. Nevertheless, I will list the general area where each tier of Stone drops and how to farm them below.
Smithing Stone [1] and [2]
- Smithing Stone [1]: Strengthens armaments up to +3.
- Smithing Stone [2]: Strengthens armaments up to +6.
To unlock Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing [1], which will let you buy Smithing Stone [1] and [2] from Twin Maiden Husks, first head to Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel. Keep going through the dungeon until you find the Crystalian boss. Magic and blunt weapon users might have an easier time against it. Once defeated, it will drop the Bell Bearing [1]. Take it to Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold, and you’ll be able to buy the Stones there for 800 and 1,600 Runes each.
You can find Smithing Stone [1] all across Lands Between as common drops, dropped by Godric Soldier (which you can farm, seen in xHolmesWalkthroughsx7 video above), as treasures around Limgrave, and from Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel enemies. Meanwhile, Smithing Stone [2] is mostly found in both Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel and Castle Morne.
Smithing Stone [3] and [4]
- Smithing Stone [3]: Strengthens armaments up to +9.
- Smithing Stone [4]: Strengthens armaments up to +12.
Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing [2], which will let you buy Smithing Stone [3] and [4] from Twin Maiden Husks, is located in the Sealed Tunnel area, as seen in Golem Gaming’s video above. You’ll then be able to buy the Stones for 2,400 and 3,600 Runes each. Usually, you can find both Smithing Stones in Sellia Crystal Tunnel, Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel, and around Ainsel River.
Smithing Stone [5] and [6]
- Smithing Stone [5]: Strengthens armaments up to +15.
- Smithing Stone [6]: Strengthens armaments up to +18.
For Bell Bearing [3], it is located somewhere in the Zamor Ruins. Once there, look for a stairwell, then go down the stairs until you reach the pitch-black bottom area and find a chest; the item is inside of it. The Stones are priced at 4,800 and 6,000 Runes.
If you’re looking for drops, try heading north from Liurnia of the Lakes until you reach Wyndham Catacombs and Wyndham Ruins. Or go to Lyndell Royal Capital. Most enemies and soldiers around those areas often drop Smithing Stone [5]. You can try Lyndell Royal Capital to farm Smithing Stone [6] as well.
Smithing Stone [7] and [8]
- Smithing Stone [7]: Strengthens armaments up to +21.
- Smithing Stone [8]: Strengthens armaments up to +24.
Bell Bearing [4] is locked behind the Godskin Duo. Go to the late-game Crumbling Farum Azula area and defeat the boss; you will automatically get the item and are now able to buy Smithing Stone [7] and [8] from Twin Maiden Husks.
To farm Smithing Stone [7], so far, most people online just go to the Sellia Crystal Tunnel area. Fallingstar Beast usually drops it, and you might get additional Stones along the way there from mobs, too. Smithing Stone [8] is more difficult to find, unfortunately. Some say you should find it in Consecrated Ground, unlocked by collecting two pieces of Haligtree Secret Medallion. See how you can get them in Games from Mars’s video above.
Elden Ring – Somber Smithing Stones Locations
While Smithing Stones are used for common equipment, Somber Smithing Stones are needed to upgrade unique weapons and shields in Elden Ring. You also need to visit a blacksmith, such as Smithing Master Hewg at the Table of Lost Grace, to use them. As a reminder, don’t forget to check out any of the game’s interactive maps to learn all of the Somber Smithing Stones’ fixed locations.
Somber Smithing Stone [1] and [2]
- Somber Smithing Stone [1]: Reinforce special armaments up to +1.
- Somber Smithing Stone [2]: Reinforce special armaments up to +2.
The easiest way to get these two Somber Smithing Stones is to buy them at Smithing Master Iji, the giant blacksmith reading a giant book just to your left if you fast travel to the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Somber Smithing Stone [1] and [2] are priced at 2,000 and 3,000 Runes, respectively.
Somber Smithing Stone [3] and [4]
- Somber Smithing Stone [3]: Reinforce special armaments up to +3.
- Somber Smithing Stone [4]: Reinforce special armaments up to +4.
To be able to buy Somber Smithing Stone [3] and [4] from Smithing Master Iji and Twin Maiden Husks, you have to find the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing [2]. You can find it in the Altus Tunnel area in Altus Plateau, but you have to defeat two Crystalin bosses to obtain it. They cost 4,000 and 6,000 Runes.
If you need to farm them, people said that Sellia Crystal Tunnel is one of the best places to get Somber Smithing Stone [3], [4], and [5], as demonstrated by Jaiko’s video above. You can also find three Somber Smithing Stone [4] around the area; one by jumping across the top of a hut with a monster on it to a platform and following the path until you find a dead body, and keep following the path through the cave to find two more Stones.
Somber Smithing Stone [5] and [6]
- Somber Smithing Stone [5]: Reinforce special armaments up to +5.
- Somber Smithing Stone [6]: Reinforce special armaments up to +6.
Look for a corpse just outside of the First Church of Marika to get the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing [3] to be able to purchase these Somber Smithing Stones.
As mentioned above, Somber Smithing Stone [5] can be farmed in Sellia Crystal Tunnel. You could also try killing some enemies at Nokron, Eternal City, for both Stone [5] and [6].
Somber Smithing Stone [7] and [8]
- Somber Smithing Stone [7]: Reinforce special armaments up to +7.
- Somber Smithing Stone [8]: Reinforce special armaments up to +8.
If you’re aiming to buy these Stones as fast as you can, then you have to blast through the main story quests until the late-game parts since Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing [4] is found in Crumbling Farum Azula. On a corpse just to the right of the Tempest Facing Balcony Site of Grace, to be precise.
Nevertheless, you can still find some in the overworld and dropped by mobs. Try heading to Nokron, Eternal City, and hunting Teardrop Scarabs in Lyndell, the Royal Capital, for Somber Smithing Stone [7]. Meanwhile, it seems the most reliable way to farm Somber Smithing Stone [8] is killing Teardrop Scarabs in Dragonbarrow or the one in front of Sellia Crystal Tunnels.
Somber Smithing Stone [9]
- Somber Smithing Stone [9]: Reinforce special armaments to +9.
So far, it doesn’t seem you’re able to buy Smithing Stone [9] from any merchant or blacksmith. One place where you can reliably find it is just below the Divine Tower of Caelid. Head to the south, take a left if you see a dragon, and you should see a small path along the cliffside. Follow it until you find corpses sitting in a circle.
Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone
- Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone: Reinforce special armaments to +10.
As you can guess, getting the best upgrade material in Elden Ring is no cakewalk. Well, I mean, the whole game is not a cakewalk in the first place, but you get the idea. This Stone can only be found in Crumbling Farum Azula. From the Dragon Temple Altar Site of Grace, head left and keep following the path. It’s filled with many dangerous enemies, but you can blast through without fighting them with a little patience and bravery.
