Elden Ring fans allowed themselves probably get a bit overexcited on Monday morning. After Bandai Namco UK exec Lee Kirkton tweeted “big day” about the Game Awards on December 10, users started thinking he was giving a little tease. After the tweet blew up, Kirkton claimed he was talking about it also being the release date for Cyberpunk 2077. This being the internet, his explanation did not calm things down.
It wasn’t just run of the mill social media users that got caught up in the excitement. Video Game Chronicle writer Andy Robinson replied to Kirkton with an “oh yeah?” The Bandai Namco UK exec responded directly to him with “yeah, we get to play Cyberpunk 2077” and a smiley face.

After more than one fan decided the exec was talking about Elden Ring, he made sure to pin a tweet that showed a Cyberpunk gif with a caption announcing December 10 is a big day for gaming.

However, if Kirkton thought his explanation was going to tamp down enthusiasm, he was sorely mistaken. Social media went wild with users talking about how long its been since they got an update on the title.
Elden Ring Fans Used To False Teases
While the gaming community will have to wait for the Game Awards to see whether this was a tease or a misunderstanding, this isn’t the first time fans suffered a bit of a letdown. At one point, rumors flew about a potential June 2020 release.

Excitement over the project’s inclusion in the Taipei Games Show engendered excitement as well. Nothing substantive came from that either.
Elden Ring fans have reason to wonder when they’ll hear more. The project, complete with a collaboration with Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin has been stingy with info.
Do you think Kirkton was really talking about Cyberpunk 2077 or was this a well-hidden tease? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
