Elden Ring players can spend hours in the game, not even finishing a quarter of it, yet the devs continue to add even more content to explore. In this case, NPC Gatekeeper Gostoc sees new quest content thanks to the latest Elden Ring update. We’ll help you find him and walk you through how to finish his entire questline.

NPC Gatekeeper Gostoc Location and Quest in Elden Ring

If you want to explore the new content from Update 1.03, you might have to boot up an old save. This is because taking certain actions will cut this quest short. We’ll address those specifics when we reach them.

Now, Gatekeeper Gostoc is an easy NPC to find in Elden Ring. After defeating Margit the Fell Omen, you’ll arrive at Stormveil Castle, a Legacy Dungeon. Near the left of the main gate is the gatehouse, and there you’ll find Gatekeeper Gostoc.

Gatekeeper Gostoc Complete Quest in Elden Ring

Gostoc informs you of a secret passage into the castle, but you can either take his suggestion or opt for the main gate. Note: the main gate is filled with enemies, so be sure you’re ready to fend them off.

This tall, older man seems suspicious at first glance, and you’re right to be wary. If you fall in battle in the castle, when you go to retrieve your Runes, you’ll have less than you initially did. This is because our lovely Gatekeeper Gostoc is also a bit of a thief in Elden Ring. He takes 30% of them.

Of course, when you find him later, you can kill him and get them back. However, this is the part we mentioned earlier that can lock you out of the rest of the quest. If you kill him, you won’t get the new content. So, either take care not to die in the castle or be ready to sacrifice those Runes.

As you go through the castle, you’ll reach a courtyard where you can raise the main gate yourself if Gostoc didn’t. Drop into a hole, and you’ll get Gatekeeper Gostoc’s second encounter in Elden Ring. He’ll offer wares you can buy.

Before the update, you could only purchase things once from him since he closes up shop after defeating Godrick. However, thanks to the update, he’ll open it up again, but we’ll get to that point.

For now, your third meeting will still happen after you defeat Godrick and you see him stomping on the remains. There will be a fourth meeting in Elden Ring as Gatekeeper Gostoc will move once more. This time, you’ll find him in the throne room after you finish Nepheli Loux’s questline and give her the Stormhawk King’s ashes.

In the throne room, Gostoc will serve as a merchant once again, opening his shop back up to you once you speak with him. Besides the usual inventory, he’ll also sell you an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. If he doesn’t show up here, you can always “pass the time” at the Godrick the Grafted Site of Grace and head back to the castle.
