As you journey through the Lands Between in Elden Ring, there are many ways to play based on your chosen character. For those interested in wielding pure magic, the Mage route is the right approach. Now, you just need to find the best Mage build in Elden Ring to suit your playstyle and get you through the toughest of battles.

The Best Mage Build in Elden Ring

The best Mage build in the game boils down to how you want to play and your chosen class. We recommend using the Astrologer Class if you want a powerful and well-rounded Mage build in Elden Ring. Of course, you can also make a reliable build with the Prophet Class too, but Astrologer is our first go-to pick.

Let’s break down each Class so you can decide for yourself.

Elden Ring Mage Build – Astrologer Class

Elden Ring Mage Build

Out of all the Classes, the Astrologer seems to fit effortlessly with the Mage. You start out at Level 6, and you will have your choice of a Keepsake and Memory of Grace.

As for your equipment, you’ll get the following:

  • Astrologer’s Staff
  • Glintstone Arc
  • Glintstone Pebble
  • Scripture Wooden Shield
  • Short Sword

Meanwhile, the stats are laid out as follows:

  • Intelligence: 16
  • Mind: 15
  • Dexterity: 12
  • Arcane: 9
  • Vigor: 9
  • Endurance: 9
  • Strength: 8
  • Faith: 7

The Astrologer offers the best Mage build in the early stages of Elden Ring due to the quick level-up process in the beginning. This is thanks to your access to spells right off the bat.

When you’re upgrading, we recommend to focus on Intelligence and Mind as your primary stats. Next, place your attention on your Endurance and Vigor.

For this Mage build in Elden Ring, you’ll want certain spells that will give you an edge in battle:

  • Carian Slicer
  • Glintblade Phalanax
  • Loretta’s Greatbow
  • Glintstone Pebble
  • Rock Sling

When it comes to weapons, the Meteorite Staff is ideal as you get it in the beginning of the game. Additionally, the Lazuli Glintstone Sword is handy and has low stat requirements to use. Meanwhile, the Carian Greatsword is a good upgrade from the Carian Slicer spell later in the game.

For your Keepsake, we recommend either Golden Seed or Crimson Amber Medallion.

Mage Build – Prophet Class

The Prophet Class isn’t bad either, and it’s best suited for players who want to use Incantations.

You begin at Level 7 here with the following stats:

  • Faith: 16
  • Mind: 14
  • Strength: 11
  • Dexterity: 10
  • Arcane: 10
  • Vigor: 10
  • Endurance: 8
  • Intelligence: 7

Also, the Prophet starts out with this equipment:

  • Catch Flame
  • Finger Seal
  • Heal
  • Rickety Shield
  • Short Spear

To make this work, we recommend using Catch Flame, Heater Shield, and Flame Sling. Since you’re using Incantations, you’ll want to focus on Mind, Vigor, and Faith stats.

Although you can go with the Prophet Class, we strongly suggest using Astrologer for your Mage build in Elden Ring. It’s the easiest and quickest to get started with, and there are great spells and equipment to use for a versatile and effective ranged fighter.
