Ellen Degeneres’ move to the United Kingdom isn’t off to the best start. The former television host vowed that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, would move out of the United States if Donald Trump was elected president. While they made good on their promise, their fresh start across the pond hasn’t been the dream they thought it would be.
Ellen Degeneres’ Move to the Cotswolds
Portia de Rossi and Ellen Degeneres made a move to the United Kingdom recently. The couple bought a multi-million-dollar estate in the Cotswolds, which is about two hours outside of London. Degeneres and her wife are planning on making it their permanent home following President Trump’s election.
Sources close to the couple told TMZ that the couple would probably “never” return to the United States. They were “very disillusioned” by the outcome of the election.
Apparently, they bought an old converted farmhouse on 43 acres before the election. It has six bedrooms and four bathrooms, and the previous owners had an eco-friendly heat pump installed. The couple reportedly fell in love with the property, which is complete with a helicopter pad and swimming pool. They were also apparently eager to get into the house, paying over $3 million more than the asking price.
Some of Ellen Degeneres’ new neighbors after the move include Elizabeth Hurley, Kate Moss, and David and Victoria Beckham.
Their New Home Hit by Historic Floods
Unfortunately, the 43-acre property is now largely underwater due to flooding in the area. The River Thames broke its banks during Storm Bert earlier this week. Locals told The Daily Mail that many people are trapped in their homes. “The flood waters are rising by the hour. This is the worst I have seen it in years,” one person told the publication.
While Ellen Degeneres has not publicly acknowledged the move, she was spotted at a local pub with Portia de Rossi earlier this month. The Farmer’s Dog Pub is located in Burford, UK, and is owned by Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson.
In the clip, Ellen Degeneres looks completely different than she did before the big move. The former talk show host sported brunette hair next to her wife as the camera panned around the bar. They each waved at the camera before the clip cut to the stage again.
It seems like life in the Cotswolds is probably not off to the best start for the celebrity couple, given the recent weather and flooding. Hopefully, things change for them in the months to come.
