After a brief silence on the subject, Billionaire CEO Elon Musk has stated his willingness to abide by the majority’s decision concerning retaining his position as the CEO of Twitter. His decision comes after he conducted a social media poll asking if he should step down as the head of the platform. He also promised to abide by the result of the poll, posted on Sunday.

Over seventeen million users participated in the vote casting. The CEO later shared the results, in which 57.5 percent of votes cast favored his resignation while only 42.5 percent opposed it. On Tuesday, Elon Musk finally addressed the poll determining the fate of his position as CEO of Twitter, saying,

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software and servers teams.”

Elon Musk Had A Controversial Run As The Twitter CEO

Days prior, the tech mogul hinted what it entailed to become the CEO of Twitter, claiming whoever wanted to succeed him must like pain a lot as the company had been on the verge of bankruptcy since May. In another tweet, he explained no one who could actually keep Twitter alive wanted the job. Hence, he had no potential successor.

Elon Musk’s controversial tenure as the Twitter CEO has prevailed since he first took the position. Aside from becoming embroiled in the Kanye West antisemitism drama, the icon has faced major backlash from netizens, especially after the mass exodus of thousands of employees following his Twitter takeover.

Another controversy stemmed from Elon carrying a kitchen sink into Twitter’s San Francisco Headquarters. He has also faced allegations of failing to pay the rent at the office building. In fact, many celebrities have expressed their disapproval of the businessman’s antics. Stars like Gigi Hadid, among others, have left the platform claiming the environment was becoming increasingly toxic.

Musk’s Free-Speech policy Brought Into Question

Many users have become increasingly alienated or had their accounts deactivated by the CEO. More recently, Elon Musk deactivated the accounts of notable journalists like Ryan Mac, Keith Olbermann, and Aaron Rupa for challenging him. While many deem his actions as anti-free speech, the businessman believes otherwise.

In a previous tweet, the 51-year-old explained that his actions against the journalists resulted from their violation of Twitter’s terms of service after posting his exact real-time location. According to him, their actions were synonymous with posting assassination coordinates, which ultimately endangered his life and family.

Notwithstanding, the hate and vitriol the CEO faces have become increasingly prevalent, even extending to his real life. Perhaps, taking over the Twitter platform was not a wise business move for Elon Musk after all.
