Cheating in video games is not exactly a crime, nor is it something that will ruin someone’s public image. However, cheating while flaunting your fake gamer skill, perseverance, and achievements is a quick way to earn the ire of some gamers, and that’s exactly what’s happening in several gaming communities in which Elon Musk boasted his pro gamer skills.
The most recent controversy surrounding Musk’s supposed cheating incidents happened in Path of Exile 2. Some players accused Musk of their own evidence that the billionaire either paid someone to play for him or bought a high-level account to pretend how much of a skillful gamer he is.
Now, even well-known streamers are calling out Musk and challenging him to prove his claims or clear up his name in the gaming community. Sadly, there’s already a clear pattern for Musk’s behavior in video games, and such accusations likely won’t bug him based on past incidents.
Cheating in a hard game like Path of Exile 2 wasn’t Musk’s first rodeo, and he even got called out for some of his prior cheating behavior.
Even an Easier Game Like Diablo 4 Wasn’t Off Limits
Last year, specifically in November 2024, Elon Musk’s Diablo 4 account was even considered one of the best in the world after clearing a monumental milestone (The Pit Level 150 for those who play the game). Musk even declared himself as “the best Diablo 4 player” earlier this month.
Now, with the most recent allegations about his cheating habits in Path of Exile 2, Diablo 4 players have recalled and doubled back on Musk’s prior gaming achievements. Similar accusations have popped up for Musk retroactively, where people have assumed that he also hired someone to boost his Diablo 4 characters and then bragged about it as his accomplishment.
Even back in late 2024, the Diablo 4 gaming community appears to have widely accepted that Musk took advantage of a bug. Others, such as Siqi Chen, founder and CEO of finance platform Runway, suggested a more obvious explanation: Musk had been hiring a team of professionals to grind for him in popular games.
Afterward, the billionaire will then supposedly take credit. Of course, to keep his pro gamer image untarnished and to keep earning the love of the gaming community and nerds all over the world, Chen suggested that Musk also presented an NDA to his team of professional ghost-gamers to keep them quiet.
Elon Musk remained unfazed by the cheeky cheating accusations, of course. It’s just a video game, after all. It’s not like real life, right?
Hard Games Like Elden Ring Were No Match for Musk’s “Pro Gamer Moves”
Years before Elon Musk even became a top player in Diablo 4, there had already been some clear incidents in Elden Ring, that might have pushed him to allegedly hire ghost-gamers. Elden Ring is often considered one of the hardest games of all time, and it’s certainly not for everyone despite its popularity.
As always, however, Musk had to prove to gamers worldwide that a hard and popular video game is no match for a billionaire like him.
Back when Elden Ring took the world by storm in 2022, Elon Musk just had to be part of the party. He even tweeted about Elden Ring and what build he used to supposedly make quick work of the game. However, those who have played Elden Ring and Dark Souls will notice something off with Musk’s build:
Heavy Load, low Vigor, two shields, and a messy stat spread are not exactly worthy of bragging and might even frustrate some newbies looking for advice from who they consider an expert. Some outlets have even roasted Elon Musk’s Elden Ring build as one of the worst builds in the game.
Since then, Musk has supposedly worked on polishing his video game builds and gaming skills to reach the top, and you can see the results in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2.
Musk’s perma-death character in Path of Exile 2 died recently and so close to the top of the leaderboards. This character’s death happened as soon as the gaming community allegedly discovered that Elon Musk was cheating. He never reached the top, sadly.
