Taking breaks at work is incredibly important as they help employees maintain focus, reduce stress, and can even help to boost their overall productivity. Not only that, but they’re typically a legal requirement in most jobs, as workers are entitled to an uninterrupted break of around 20 minutes, if you’re working a shift that comprises of six or more hours in a day. Recently, an Amazon delivery driver was taking a break from his delivery schedule, but a California man approached him and began berating the worker. On top of that, the man rudely demanded his package and mocked the delivery driver’s job. The footage is circulating online at the moment.
The 48-second video is recorded from the perspective of the Amazon delivery driver, who is stood on the side of a road, and a man sporting a brown t-shirt and a blue cap is sat in the driving seat of his grey vehicle. Next to him is a female passenger, who is presumably the man’s daughter, and the driver and the Amazon worker are in the middle of a back and forth conversation. “You’re serious, right?” asks the Amazon employee. While it’s unclear what the preceding question was, it’s fair to infer that the man in the vehicle was likely asking why the Amazon driver was not working and was taking break.
In response, the man in the car exclaims, “Yeah, I’m f*ckin’ serious.” To this, the Amazon employee calmly explains, “So, I’m taking a break. We’re allowed to have breaks.” Eager to get his package, the man fires back, “Okay, can I get my package so I can go do the sh*t I gotta do?” The Amazon driver expresses, “I’m gonna get you your package, but I’m on my break and in California, we’re allowed to take breaks. Do you take breaks at your job?” The man’s face doesn’t look best impressed with this answer, and replies, “I don’t take breaks.”
The next part is when the altercation becomes a little more combative, as the man drops a thinly veiled insult about the Amazon worker’s career choice, stating, “That’s why I’m not a f*ckin’ Amazon delivery driver, okay?” It’s worth noting that at this point, the female passenger next to the man appears visibly uncomfortable with the awkward back and forth. “Anything else?” calmly responds the delivery worker.
Next, the entitled man then exclaims, “Yeah, can I have my f*ckin’ package and I’ll be on my way.” The delivery driver then attempts to reason with the man, saying, “I’m a dad, too. I’m a dad, too. So, I’m not gonna say what I want to say to you. But man, I wish I could give you the runaround.” The man in the car retorts, “I wish you could, too, bud.”
As tensions continue to escalate, the Amazon driver explains, “You see, I’m in a uniform and I can’t ’cause I’m on the job.” The entitled man fires back, “That’s fine. Can I have my package?” To this, the delivery guy states, “Yeah, when I’m done with my break, I’m gonna deliver my packages.” which ends the video.
While the tense standoff is making the rounds online, social media reactions came pouring in. Over on Reddit, some reactions joked about how uncomfortable the daughter looked during the ugly back and forth, as one user wrote, “That passenger looked embarrassed as f*ck.” while an additional comment added, “One of those “dad holy sh*t please stop”. Elsewhere, other users championed the Amazon driver’s patience and restraint, with one commenter declaring, “Kudos to the restraint the delivery driver showed. That had to be tough.” while another chimed in with, “The entitlement is wild. I would have just walked back to my truck and rolled up my window. You gave this guy more time I would have.”
