J.J. Abrams is bringing a Lost alum on board to Star Wars: Episode IX. Deadline reports that Dominic Monaghan, who played Charlie Pace on Lost, has joined the packed cast in a galaxy far, far away. There is no word yet on what role he has in the film, just that he is excited to be on board.
When asked about the opportunity, Monaghan offered up a delightfully geeky response. “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved,” he said about his role in Star Wars: Episode IX.
This will not be Monaghan’s first foray into a massive, geek-favorite franchise. You may also remember him as one of Frodo’s hobbit companions, Merry Brandybuck, from Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings franchise.
All he has to do is put a bug in Abrams’ ear, and maybe we’ll see him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to make the full geek circle complete.
There has been plenty of casting news surrounding Star Wars: Episode IX over the last few months. Besides the obvious returns like Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and John Boyega, we’ve also learned that Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, and Keri Russell is expected to come on board as well. We will also see Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher in the film, although the extent of their roles is unknown.
Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to serve as closure to the third trilogy of the saga and close the book on the Skywalker family‘s role in the films. It recently began production, and is scheduled to release on December 20, 2019. Stay tuned to The Nerd Stash for more information on the film as it becomes available.
